There are countless opportunities for people to enjoy different kinds of recreational boating activities on the Red River and its many bayous and tributaries around Shreveport-Bossier City, including power boating, canoeing, kayaking and even water skiing. Sailing is also a popular sport on the lakes near Shreveport. There is a sailing club named the Shreveport Yacht Club located on Cross Lake where people can take sailing classes and children can attend a Summer Youth Sailing Camp. For those who may not be familiar with the rules, regulations and safety procedures required by State of Louisiana, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries provides a one day course to educate people on the basics of boating. Information presented includes how to choose a boat and how to comply with all legal requirements and equipment requirements. All boats with motors that operate in Louisiana must be registered and numbered, and completion of the course enables students to easily obtain a boat operator's license.

What’s new on the Red River for boat lovers?

The Red River South Marina and Resort has space to dock 60 boats at the main docks and 20 more boats along the retaining wall. Boat launches are capable of lowering 4 boats simultaneously into the water and the resort also contains 12 fully-equipped RV parking areas and 10 cabins that can accommodate up to 4 guests.
