Imus Apologizes for Disparaging Remarks

Radio host Don Imus apologized Friday for disparaging rRemarks about Rutgers women's basketball team

Texasbelle 04-09-2007 12:11 PM

You know what is interesting to me is that they can call each other Nappy head and such but don't dare let anybody else do it.:nono:

Yep it just depends on who's doing it. On the other hand, as a white guy, anyone can call me a "cracker" and that is ok. In fact, it is almost like I somehow deserve it. Doesn't bother me though. I'm not a big fan of political correctness to begin with, so my skin is pretty thick.

Isaac-Saxxon 04-09-2007 12:49 PM

Your skin may be thick but it is white too

All this PC crap has gone to far. Apologize for freedom of speech ? Never ! This is the age of suck ups and I am tired of help a brother attitude  You help them and they bite your hand and still do nothing but want more and never try to take it and make it better. You can lead a brother to water but you can not make him drink.

It is an atrocity to say "nappy headed hos" which is an obvious racial slur. Now had the team been playing Lacrosse at Duke and been called "blonde bimbo hos" by a controversial black radio DJ, it would have been met with much less controversy I think. I’m still trying to figure all this out………………

Things you are allowed to make fun of:
1. Skinny people
2. White guys
3. How country rednecks talk
4. White girls hair
5. The troups’ commander

Things you are NOT allowed to make fun of:
1. Fat people
2. Black guys
3. How minorities talk
4. Black girls hair
5. The troups

Al Swearengen 04-09-2007 06:45 PM

Yeah...the whole "PC" thang...alot of how a controversial comment is received/perceived depends on where, when, and to whom its uttered . Not a whole lot of folks down here in the south are gonna get mad at ya if ya use the "N" word, cuz we've all met our share of em. Not ALL blacks deserve it, but many of em do, so ya just have to be sure that whoever youre callin the "N" word rates it! And Im like you Rhertz, they can call me "cracker" or "whitey" or "honkey" till they turn blue in the face and it aint gonna bother me, cuz the ones who would be callin me those things are the "N's" I just spoke of. If we're talkin about mexicans who are here legally and are hard workin contributin members of society, I wont use the "S" or "W" words when referrin to em, but I got no problem callin the illegal aliens by em!

rhertz 04-10-2007 04:23 PM

Just thought of one more PC observation. It is bad to make fun of midgets, dwarfs, little people, or whatever the correct PC term might be nowadays. But it is OK to make fun of tall people all you want. "How's the weather up there?"

I hope nobody is ever PC on my account. What being PC really means is that somebody out there thinks I am not right in some way, they feel sorry for me, and then think that I need their help in fixing world to where I am OK.

He made that fatal mistake of capitulation and once someone apologize they attack like good Democrats. You will never hear a Democrat apologize for any thing. Heck look at Dollar Bill Jefferson he is moving up in the world and is a crook no apologies needed :nono: :nono: Slack jawed liberal crap. People it is time to get out and use your vote to send these turds packing and do not let some sob story sway your vote.

I was just wondering if anyone has every seen the Dave Chappelle show?
I was really surprised when I tuned in and saw that this black man was calling everyone on the show the N word among other things. He was also making fun of white and hispanic people. He is now a multi-millionaire and it is okay for him to say the things he said because he's a minority. No other race could get away with that type of show.:(

Imus: 'I've apologized enough'

Dave Chappelle's Show Niggar Family Video

When is Dave Chappelle going to apologize for this??

Dave is funny as hell but I don't see that he is any less offensive than Imus is. It just depends on who's saying it and the color of their skin. "Racism" somehow makes it OK. Anyone offended by comedians needs to get a life.

Yeah you might be right. But maybe it isn't because Dave is black and Imus is white. Maybe it is because Dave is funny and Imus isn't.

If you are white you can not say anything that is not PC but if you are black then you can say anything you want. I am a cracker, honkies and a white boy and that does not bother me a bit. I think the PC police are out of control.
Good post rhertz.
Isaac

rhertz 04-12-2007 03:01 PM

I've been thinking about this issue and "free speech" and all that. We all know you don't have the right to enter a theater and yell "Fire! Fire!" which might cause panic resulting in injury.

But if a comedian is in a theater and yell's "Fire! Fire!" everyone would probably continue laughing thinking it is a joke or part of the act rather than actually panic and run.

So comedians have speech rights that we not-as-funny folks don't? All I'm saying is that I think comedians sometimes think there is no line at all, just because the line that they can't cross is no where near everybody elses, at least if the comedian is funny enough. But the line is still there. It does move around a little depending on who you are. I think some comedians just make a bad choice out of the 100's of jokes they choose to tell and cross the wrong line. I'm not defending Imus, never heard of him before. I just think this whole story is over done.

I have to agree I found the episode I saw funny but was still somewhat shocked that was allowed on cable t.v. and that no one black nor white had put up a fuss!

We have let the PC rat get into the house

The very ones that say they are here to help you (ACLU) are the same lawyers that are the PC police. Help the poor man but don't you dare call him poor. Break the back of the working man because he might have independent thoughts and that just will not do kind of like unplugging from the Matrix the agents will be coming to see you if you get out of line with their way of thinking. How is it that we as a country will let 17% of the population dictate
with the help of trial lawyers what the rest of the country can say and not say ????

Imus...you will be missed.

Imus used to be on at my house every morning before I left for work. He pretty much said what the rest of us think but are affraid to say! What ever happened to freedom of speech? If a black man had said what he said they would have thought it was funny! Did anyone see the interview where Imus addressed 2 black people as "you people" MEANING THOSE TWO PEOPLE? They immediatly jumped all over him..."you people, you people" meaning he was classifying the black race as "YOU PEOPLE"! Get that dang chip off your shoulders and set an example for all of us white folks. Don't call each other nigga, nappy heads, playas, pimps etc. if you don't want the rest of the world to think it is okay for us to talk that way.

Do you happen to like Barney Fife too ;) Well the PC crap is all run by a few that are driven to tear down and make life ruff on all of us. It is time for people like Imus and Ann Coulter to be heard in a large way. The big correction is coming and it ain't gone to be pretty. Welcome to the board Kramer I love that guy.

What year was that about 1980 when I really got to know Barney and yes Mayberry is just around the corner from all of us. Hey Paw. I think Imus will get his own show on satellite radio and he should. He will sell like Coulter and it is time to have Cracker Radio and let this PC crap go the way of the world. I am glad so see new faces on the board and someone that likes Mayberry at that. :D ;)

This is the direct result of ignoring liberal agendas. How many times have you altered activities or speech out of fear of being called a racist? Gotta look over your shoulder before you tell that joke?

Interestingly enough, a direct correlation exists between the civil rights movement and the rise in crime, prison populations, violence, drop-out rates, lower education scores, etc, etc, etc.

I'm sure this passed with flying colors in California....to bad you guys think we're all created equally, huh? :)

Yesterday as I was driving and listening to talk radio I had the opportunity to listen to them discussing the whole Imus issue. We've done it here but they were hashing out the whole "Why can they do it but we can't?". They had clips of song by rappers and such which I found very interesting. It seems that Barak Obama recently had a fundraiser were 'Ludichris' was performing and there are lots of pics floating around of the two together. In his song he performed it goes like this...."I got ho's ho's ho's in every zip code". It goes on with more what they consider demeaning words (only if Imus says them I guess).

Interesting to see that Obama can raise money with a guy who sings lyrics like this but on the other hand call for the firing of Imus for using the same words. You've just got to love those Democrats.

Here where I live we have a festival each year in may called sunfest, http://www.sunfest.com and they have very popular artists here. last year I was able to see Carrie Underwood, this year I bought tickets so I can go see Chris Daughtry (was on AI last year). This year they are also having ludacris and it's a huge topic in this area how gangs will be there etc and people are actually boycotting the festival that's been going on for a very long time due to them having ludacris here. I found it pretty interesting myself since I did buy a 4 day pass but I am going each day but the day Ludacris plays due to the crowd that may show up there. It's not like Shreveport where you charge 5.00 and it keeps the rift raft out all the rift raft will pay 25.00 to see him.

I don't like Ludacris like I don't like the government they are all one in the same :peace:

Pocahontas 04-17-2007 09:32 PM

Overreactors!!!

I don't feel Imus should have been fired from his jobs! Every single human says things without thinking sometimes whether they mean it or not. Of course we've all stuck our foot in our mouths before.:footinmouth: I just feel a suspension would have been enough punishment. Also he was in the middle of a fund drive for a camp for children with cancer and his fundraiser was it's biggest resource. How can someone like that be all bad?:(

Al Swearengen 04-17-2007 10:49 PM

I was never much of an Imus fan, but I agree Pokie, firin him was a bit extreme. Hopefull he'll land on his feet!
