Not Voting

>People who don't vote, don't have the right to complain about our government.

Sure, they do.

>I guess my fair share is being in a high tax bracket

Our community doesn't have an income tax.

Neo 11-11-2006 11:13 AM

Our community still has to comply with all state and federal regulations. Our commmunity elects officials that particpitate in state and federal decisions.

No, but it could be argued that a "sales tax" is just another form of income tax. Typically the more someone makes, the more they spend proportionally. Of course there are exceptions. But I don't know very many poor people who drive BMW's or rich people who drive Saturns. Most people spend in relation to what they earn.

I've never added up what I pay in income tax, plus social security tax, plus property tax, plus sales tax, plus inventory/property tax, plus payroll tax, plus plus plus... I'm pretty sure it's a substantial amount! ;)

Al Swearengen 11-12-2006 06:39 PM

uh...nevermind

Bracket

Sales tax isn't bracketed. Everybody in the city is in the same tax bracket sales tax-wise.

Isaac-Saxxon 11-13-2006 08:16 AM

Why would anybody not vote ? What about our friend Stelly the tax man. Not
everybody pays the same sales tax. You can go to Bossier to shop and pay
more or out of the city limits and pay less or out of state and pay nothing on
tax free days. I find it hard to take anybody serious that does not vote it kind of taints anything they write or say. I know if I did not vote I would not
tell anyone ! Sounds like a socialist idea.

Chief of police retires

Shreveport's Police Chief Has Retired From The Department

I wonder if that has anything to do with our new mayor ?
I guess that's pretty typical is it not ? for a mayor to pick his chief of police ?

Yes Isaac, what would the neighbors think? Oh, the ignominy, Isaac, the ignominy...oh, the scandal! Ok, in the first place I pay my share of the taxes here and I've lived here as long or longer than either of ya, plus Im a veteran so if its ok with you two, I'll just ***** about our government anytime the mood strikes, ok? How bout them apples? I wont go into the reasons why I didnt vote, but I wont lose any sleep over havin missed it. So Jones is a great guy, Isabella? Is he a great guy because ya know him personally, because he paid ya to say that, or because of his party affiliation? Isaac, by your own admission ya dont even live here, and I wont even mention your atrocious spelling and punctuation and how that might taint anything you say or write (OOPS!) I'm just beside myself with grief since Isabella says I dont have the right to complain and Isaac cant take me seriously...hope this doesnt mean they want me to get a number tat on my arm and a free "relocation" trainride. Ya dont have any large community shower stalls ya want me to step into, do ya?

Al, for what its worth, IMHO, in an "all volunteer" military, those who serve are casting their ultimate vote. Thanks for serving but don't expect me to call you a "great american", but only because of Hannity. You know what I mean. I'll just call you a great "Early American" from the old West.. LOL, I must buy the Deadwood series and learn more about Al S.

Al Swearengen 11-14-2006 12:18 AM

LOL Rhertz, yeah, I get alot of mileage out of my vet status...its one of the benefits of having served. I can sometimes use it to make up for any change Im short when purchasing a tasty snack or beverage, and its particularly effective in situations such as these, where I can use it to pummel my detractors into submission :D

You can always get your free catfish dinner on veterans day from ole Chester Kelly at Cresent Landing Catfish restaurant. :) I was sort of surprised to see him on the ballot for Congress. I liked his platform.

Al Swearengen 11-14-2006 07:09 PM

Yeah, I knew about ole Chester's standing offer of a free catfish dinner..hes been doin that for some time now, and ya gotta admit, its one hell of a marketin device. I've never taken him up on it, as I rarely have my DD214 with me. Would've loved to see him unseat McCrery, but alas, twas not to be.

Isabella 11-14-2006 09:35 PM

Aww Al, I did not mean to hurt you feelings.

Al Swearengen 11-14-2006 09:38 PM

LOL...Isabella, I'll live

But you did not vote Al ??? Your spelling sucks too ! You may be a vet ? I don't know that for sure but I would think if your a vet you would be the first one in line to vote ? Not ! I guess being a vet and older and wiser than everybody and a Christian and a Jew at the same time you have all the bases covered. Apologize for what I said ? NOT ! Al don't get your feelings hurt as we all throw rocks from behind our avatar just pick them up and throw them back. Al did you ever serve in active combat or did you sit behind a desk ? Which branch did you serve in ? I thank you for serving our country ! Next time you have a chance to vote please vote unless something has happened so that they will not let you vote ? I am sure you have your reasons I just do not know what they are. Isabella stand by your statement and don't cut bait and run from the truth.
Isaac
