Studies indicate that firearms are used more than 2 million times a year for personal protection, and that the presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, prevents crime in many instances. Shooting can usually be justified only where crime constitutes an immediate, imminent threat to life, limb, or in some cases, property. It is in this spirit that I will reproduce here, for your reading pleasure, excerpts from the "Armed Citizen" column of the NRA's official journal "America's 1st Freedom". Enjoy!

When a Harlem thug saw Margaret Johnson, a grandmother who has been confined to a wheelchair since a 2001 injury, he thought he had an easy target. The friendly Johnson said hello to the man, but according to police, he responded by grabbing her around the neck in an attempt to steal her necklace. But he had underestimated Johnson, an NRA member and accomplished target shooter who was on her way to the gun range. She reached for her registered pistol and shot her assailant, sending him running. Police caught up with Johnson's assailant half a block away.

LMAO!!! That's great! Talking about having a BAD sense of who the best targets are. :D

When Michael Slonaker heard an unexpected, midnight-hour knock at his door, he cautiously answered it armed with a handgun. Unbeknownst to him, two juveniles were standing behind his front door, one clucthing a baseball bat and the other holding a shotgun. As Slonaker opened the door, the juvenile holding the shotgun began to raise it. Slonaker fired two shots, hitting both assailants. The shotgun-toting youth, who had been on probabtion, was killed. His accomplice was arrested when he sought treatment at the hospital for a gunshot wound.

Sounds like that caught criminals, limited paperwork, limited manhours, and most likely deterred future crimes. Al could be on to something here.... the national debt may be solved!!!!

Can you write any of the expenses off on taxes?

More thoughts from Tom Gresham on the subject:

"Barely more than a year ago House Bill 1572 couldn't even make it out of committee in the Virginia General Assembly. The bill would have made it legal for students and staff at Virginia universities to have guns for their own protection. Today's shooter did not wait for such a law, and took advantage of the government-mandated victim-state.

When House Bill 1572 was defeated, state newspapers reported: "Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. 'I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.'"

Samuel Mitchell was exiting his church after choir practice, unaware that two blocks away events were in motion that would change his life. Police say a robber attempted to rob a man and a woman, and the victims fled in opposite directions. The suspect pursued the female toward the church, where Mitchell had gotten into his truck. As he was leaving the parking lot, the woman climbed into Mitchell's vehicle and pleaded for help. When the suspect caught up, he stuck apistol inside the truck window and announced a carjacking. Mitchell, who has a concealed carry permit, responded by producing his own pistol and shooting the suspect, who died at the hospital.

Molon Labe! to you Al  Good post Sir. I see on the front page of the liberal rag sheet the Times this morning that they want to take our guns and and push their socialist agenda down our throat :nono: :nono: BS on that and I say place the guns back in the hands of the American People  Crime will fall to the ground  and a brother will think twice before he pulls his 9 out to do a crime because odds are he would be looking down the barrel of a 44 and that would be the last thing he saw.

Seems so simple to me...

Take away the right to carry a gun and you take away citizenship altogether. Our forefather's recognized that. Great stories & a great cause, Al!! Got more?

I'm a fan of those who support gun maintenance by citizens of America. By limiting our control of arms, we have no means to protect ourselves against the police; hence, a police state overwhelms the population. Here are some lyrics from a band I love called Leftover Crack:

Jeez how do I respond to that. I am FOR the police and also FOR gun rights. I did not know we needed guns to protect ourselves from the police. I thought we needed guns to protect ourselves from drug using robbers and bad guys.

BTW, at my workplace in downtown shreveport, there have been 5 car buglaries in the past 3 days. Stealing petty stuff out of cars to sell for drug money I bet.

Even still, you can't just assume and then make certain that your assumptions are correct. I can't speak for everyone, I'm not a thief, and I don't know what goes on in the minds of those who do such.

These people are usually interviewed after they are arrested which is why statistics from the local police department show that these car break ins and other similar break ins stealing items that can be easily hocked at the pawn shops are drug related. Before you try to argue with me, let me assure you that within SPD, I have friends in high high places.

Which is further proof of the lack of equality in the upper systems. When you trust government to "secure" you and take over these programs to provide benefits, not any normal person can get the kind of information, say, someone like yourself could. I see that it's something that happens regardless of necessity, it's just how things work, and there's not too much of a precise way to stop corruption or inequality.

EDIT: I guess most of my ideas are based on my vision of Utopia, rather than sensible mannerisms that could lead to the most workable, yet maybe not the most perfect, solutions to issues.

The homeowners, who were asleep, "awoke to a living nightmare", said Seguin, Texas, Police Department officer Aaron Seidenberger. "A person had broken into their home, and now they were violently struggling to get the suspect to leave." The male homeowner fought with the burgler, who was armed with a wooden blub-like object he found inside the home. The homeowner broke free, retrieved a .40 caliber handgun from inside the bedroom, and yelled at the intruder to leave. When the burgler made a mad dash toward the homeowner, he was shot and killed.
