Is Religion Good For Your Health?

In the study, researchers mailed surveys to a random sample of 2,000 U.S. doctors from all specialties. Participants were asked to estimate how often patients raised religious or spiritual issues, how much religion and spirituality affect health, and how the influence of religion and spirituality is manifested.

Among the more than 1,100 doctors who returned the survey, the results showed that 56 percent believed religion and spirituality had much or very much influence on health.

Christ is good for the health of your soul

I think soul and body have a direct effect on each other. I think that having a doctor that is of strong faith is good too. Tbelle works with many terminal people and she is a good Christian woman that has much to offer to those people that are sick. My wife has the same strong faith and is a great care giver to friends and family God bless these care giving souls.

I know of a very distinct connection between spirituality and health. It's in your chakra system. For those who don't know, the chakra are a part of Eastern spiritual practices, philosophies, and medical treatments.

To explain the connection, I must first explain what the chakra are. The chrakra are the 7 points on the body from where the human body gets its massive energy from. They are the celestial batteries we are plugged into.

Attachment 281

The energy created from these points are fed into the bioetheric aura of the body as well as the bioetheric channels where the meridians are accessed (the meridians are acupuncture points). A fundamental of Reiki (Eastern energy healing) is that the chakra effect the aura and vice versa. When the chakra are out of balance for whatever reason, the result is illness and/or pain.

Let me give you an example of how this works. What causes your typical illnesses? Most people would say germs and/or bacteria in the body. While this is definitely true, there is more to it than that. Germs and bacteria are always present in the body. In fact, our digestive system depends on it. What determines our level of health, despite them, is the effectiveness of our immune system which is powered by the chakra like all other bodily functions. When the chakra fails to feed the proper amount of energy to a certain area of the body, you'll probably get sick or begin feeling pain there.

In short, you have a shield of energy wrapped around you that is fed by a bunch of spinning vortexes that are centered over the major nervous system points in your body. When one goes awry, you get sick.

Now, let's connect them to spirituality and religion. The chakra that most commonly associates with spirituality, meditation, prayer, and even psychic ability is the brow chakra, also known as the "3rd eye" located on your forehead. When a person's brow chakra is "over-active" the energy output becomes excessive, thus strengthening the person's spiritual sensativity and generally strengthening their body's energy output and theoretically boosting the immune system in the process. When this happens, the aura produces the proverbial angel's halo around the head of the person. For someone whose eyes have been conditioned to see the aura, this halo can be seen and observed with the naked eye. For centuries, this has been a common mark of the spiritually evolved. Now you know why! :D

Survey says....

I do believe that spirituality is very important in your mental and physical health! I think praying/meditating and clean living play a huge role as well. Just reading the Bible can have a very calming affect on my nerves too. I don't know if I'd like to see a doctor who wasn't spiritual.

Well I think it's common knowledge that our brain exerts a certain amount of influence over our body, and therefore the side effects of believing one is about to "burn in hell" or "Sit at the right hand side of the Lord" are quite obvious.

However, when you survey a predominately religious population on their religious beliefs, how can you logically expect objective results? Suppose that survey was conducted in a "fantasyland" that consisted of 90% atheists? Interestingly enough, I think the majority on that one would be significantly higher than 56% but that's another story.

Simply put, the survey fails to address alternate beliefs. I "believe" in man and science and the "miracle" of technology happens with considerably more frequency than those of a religious nature....and I am just as healthy as the next guy, 44% of doctors surveyed say so:clap:

I have two doctors that I see on a regular basis one DDS and the other Internal Medicine and they are both Christian men and if I had to ever see a specialist I would do some shopping around big time. That is not to say I would not ever let someone else work on me in a tight I would but if given time I would shop. I LOVE MY BIBLE and my Christian wife. Thank you for posting that wonderful post. We need more on the board like you and the other nice ladies that post here.

Pokie and Isaac, I am with you both as well. I love my Christian husband. There is no marriage like the marriage of being "equally yoked". It applies to business as well and all of your relationships, even the doctor/patient relationship. Many people when facing serious illness instantly want to know about the religious preference of their physician. It's interesting to watch. I know of a situation where one patient made a physician extremely angry because the physician is Indian and a devout Hindy, the patient asked him about it and immediately switched to said doctor's partner who is a Christian. He didn't take that so well, but it happen a few more times after that and he's had to get use to it! After all, he does live in the Bible belt where we tend to be mostly Christians.
