Wait time at LSU

I rally think LSU needs to do something about the wait time in their ER. I went out there yesterday and at 8:30 pm I gave up and came home without see a doctor. While I was there 2 other people and I were put in a seperate waiting room from the main waiting. The man had came in at 8:00 am with chest pains at 8:00 pm he was still waiting to see a doctor. The woman had came in at 10:00 am with her sugar running 500. At 8:00 pm she was still waiting to see a doctor. I don't care what that hosiptal says there is no REASON why people should have to sit 12 to 20 hours wating to be seen. This is rediculous. I'm not bad mouthing the workers but something definately needs to change. I do know that while I was there that the other two people were only checked on once and that was at 5:30 pm. Both other people were hungry and thristy because the workers didn't want them to eat until a doctor checked them. I know LSU is a busy place but pleassse. It is rediculous. They say on weekends the wait time could be more than 24 hours. What is going to happen is someone will die on the floor in the waiting room before someone steps up.

I would think part of the problem, is the number of people who go to the LSUMC emergency room, instead of seeing their family doctor or the like.
granted some people are there for an emergency... and then some aren't ...

There are far less wait times at some of the other hospitals in town.

You get what you pay for. If you were able to leave without dying why did you go to the emergency room in the first place?

Well I went for chest pains too. But I gave up. I guess if I was goung to die home would have been better than the floor of the ER. I know a lot of people with insurance that have to use LSU too. That is where the burn unit is. So I guess you think LSU is just for the poor. Well don't get burned or you will get what you PAIDED FOR.

The trick to this place is you have to tell them you think you are having a stoke or a heart attack. They will see you pretty quick. You could also shoot yourself and go in there covered in blood.

That hospital services all of this part of the state and some of Texas and Arkansas. Maybe we should tell them to build their own hospital uh. So yes they have a large number of people who use it. As I told Joe that is where the burn unit is. God help you and Joe if you ever need to go there.

I said you have to tell them you think you're having an attack NOW! Not that your chest might hurt.

It still won't work because they will do an EKG to see.

Are you still having chest pains Pie? Why don't you go to another hospital emergency room or that walkin clinic? Do they refuse you if you don't have insurance even if it's something as serious as a heart attack?? I really don't know.

Title: When The Welfare Turns Its Back On You

Now whatcha gonna do
When the welfare turn it's back on you?
Whatcha gonna do
When the welfare turn it's back on you?
You'll be standin' there stranded
And there won't be a thing you can do

Now you look all through your house, yeah
Yes, and you can't even find a piece of bread
You look all through your house, I know you do
Yes, you can't even find a piece of bread
I sometimes begin to wonder, yeah
Yes, if you'd be better off, be better off dead

Lord have mercy

(Guitar solo)

You have to go down to the welfare
Every month to report
And some of the things they say to you
Will sure enough get your goat
If you tell them that you're sick
You better have a bad cough, lord have mercy
Cause if you don't, they'll be ready to throw you off,
When The Welfare Turns Its Back On You
I know they will

Whatcha gonna do, lord have mercy
When the welfare turns its back on you?
Yeah, you'll be standin' there stranded
Yeah, and there ain't a thing that you can do

Yes I am still hurting but I hope mine is a pulled muscle or something. I don't know. But if you go to other hospitals or clinics all they will do is stablize you untill they can send you to LSU.

Pocahontas 09-27-2007 04:45 PM

Do you or someone you know, know a doctor that you could call and ask personally what in the heck you should do in case it's NOT a pulled muscle? Be cautious Pie!

First of all let me say that ALL of the emergency rooms in the area are used by most people as a place to be seen for matters that should be taken care of in a normal physicians office. This is the biggest problem which causes people like you Pie to have to wait when what you are experiencing is potentially a true emergency. The lady with the elevated blood sugar is probably a chronic diabetic who is not taking her medicine regularly. She probably is not showing up for her regular appointments with the Internal Medicine clinic as she should and probably not taking care of herself as she should.

There is nothing LSU can do to decrease the wait time that they have not already tried. They only have so many physicians and residents to go around. Your one option you didn't try was to head outside to the parking lot, drive down the road say to Taco Bell, dial 911, and tell them you think you are having a heart attack and suffering by chest pains. When you are brought in by ambulance, you are taken straight into the ER, to the back with the doctors, and they have to do something.

Now all that being said, the thing you need to do is head early early in the morning to the Internal Medicine Clinic or Walk in whatever and being the wait to be seen. Your chest pain needs to be addressed. Many women suffer silently from heart disease meaning that you could have a heart attack and not know it, etc .
