New Orleans Saints Playoff Thread

1 Attachment(s)
Well, the regular season is over. Saints are in the playoffs. A team that played way beyond expectations. Finds itself in the number 2 slot in the NFC.

A situation they have never been in before. They have been to the playoffs a hand full of times in their history. But they have only won ONE playoff game ever.

When it comes to the Saints, I'm a bit superstitious, and don't like to talk about such things as playoffs. But I can barely contain my excitement for this years' team.

Next weekend is the wild card playoffs, so the Saints and the Chicago Bears have that weekend off, while they await to see who their opponents will be come the following weekend.

In the mean time I hope to use this thread to post any new Updates regarding the Saints and their playoff hopes. I invite all our local Saints fans to jump in with their support.

WHO DAT! :gosaints:

Quote:

NEW ORLEANS -- Any questions about how the Saints were approaching Sunday's regular season finale were answered about 40 minutes before kickoff when backup quarterback Jamie Martin could be seen warming up in earnest.

All-pro quarterback Drew Brees was nowhere to be seen, opting to remain in the locker room until shortly before kickoff against the Carolina Panthers at the Superdome.

That was clearly a sign of both how unimportant this game was to the Saints and how little New Orleans coach Sean Payton planned on playing Brees.

That the Panthers beat the Saints 31-21 was no of more significance than the outcome of a preseason game since New Orleans had clinched the NFC South title and a No. 2 seed in the playoffs before hand.

Yes, the Saints finished the season at 10-6 instead of 11-5. So what?

Not sure.

Not sure how this works out..
But next weekend in the NFC
It's Seattle vs. Dallas in Seattle.
and
Eagles vs. Giants in Philly

if Seattle beats Dallas and the Giants beat Philly, we would play Seattle the following week ?

I think if the Eagles beat the Giants, we would play them the following week instead.

The Saints have beaten the Giants, Eagles and the Cowboys during the regular season once already....

LOL not sure I can take it !!!!

Edit: o.k. after some more reading.. is this it:
The Saints can either play the Eagles or the Dallas/Seattle winner
The Bears can either play the Giants or the Dallas/Seattle winner

Could it be the year ???

Does this bi this week count as a win ? I count it as a win. I am pumped about LSU for tonight. This could be the year for LA football. Heck Booty led USC to a big win and he is a local boy. Tail gate tonight and down to victory lane which is a warm up for the Saints walk down the same lane.

Sure Snow Man, I'll count it as a win.. this will be only the second time the Saints have made it into week 2 of the playoffs. First time was through a first round win, this year, the Saints get the first week off, and a chance to rest up, and plenty of practice. :gosaints:

Saints Have Thomas Back, Hoping for Horn

Quote:

METAIRIE, La. (AP) -New Orleans Saints' defensive tackle Hollis Thomas and veteran receiver Joe Horn each missed the last four games of the regular season, for very different reasons.

Thomas will be back for the Saints' second-round playoff game, following a suspension. Whether Horn has recovered enough from a groin injury to play still isn't certain.

While his teammates got the first part of the week off, Thomas worked out at the Saints' training headquarters, looking fresh and fit, coach Sean Payton said Wednesday.

Thomas was suspended by the NFL, which said he failed a test for banned steroids. Thomas has denied violating NFL policies, and said the positive test resulted from substances in his asthma medication.

Now that the suspension has ended, Thomas is once again eligible to practice and play with New Orleans.

Meanwhile, Horn aggravated a previous groin injury after his first catch in a game against San Francisco on Dec. 3 and has not played since. The injury also had sidelined him for two games earlier in the season.

Reggie Bush Named NFL Rookie of the Month of December

"It is always an honor to be selected for an award such as a player of the week or a player of the month," said Bush. "But I think the most important thing that we have going right now is that we are in the postseason and getting ready to play a divisional playoff game. To be able to contribute to a division title and a first-round bye is the most important thing. We have goals that we still haven't reached yet and our focus is on those right now."

The stage is set, Eagles vs Saints

The Eagles head down to New Orleans for a Saturday Night showdown in the Dome. You think that New Orleans crowd is going to be loud ?? maybe ?

Don't know if I can stand the stress, gonna be a long week. I'm gonna take a break from talking about Football for a few days.. otherwise I'll go nuts. So here's just a few last minute notes from me for a bit..

Now, now late night the Saints have a great team and as I have posted before there is no luck involved here they are a good team and good teams win because they are GOOD ! Now there is the extra player called the crowd and I am sure that they will do their part and then off to the next step in taking the big show. They WILL win and it will not be luck that gets it done. Now there is one factor to fear the dreaded "Zebra" having a bad day !

Yea, I'll drink to that.. or pass out to that.
If it comes down to freakin' overtime, I just don't see me handling that kind of stress. I'll have to step outside to my bar, and take a few shots.. and listen to the crowd noise or something..

:gosaints:

Isaac-Saxxon 01-09-2007 12:19 PM

Gooooooooooooo Saints

I thought you would like the OT comment ! Just a football game and no matter what the Saints have had a great year and have a quality staff and team. So off with the brown bags and let the black and gold roll on in to Feb with a final win ! I will do my best to keep this thread alive till Sat when you start a new one :D

Brown Bag Sat Night

Could this be the year of the Saint ? or maybe the year of the brown bag. I think the only way the brown bags would be back if the gamed was a total blow out like 50 to 3 or something like that ? Stay tuned ......
Snow Man

LateNight 01-09-2007 02:38 PM

LOL and apparently I can't seem to stay away.. or keep my eye off the NFL network channel or ESPN.. UGHHHH

No, don't see it being a blow out.. even as nervous as I am about this game.
Regardless of the outcome of this game.. given the Saints only won three games last year.. to make it into the second week of the playoffs this year is nothing short of amazing as far as I'm concerned.

Between a new QB, rookie Head Coach, and a few other rookie skill players, this season has been great. I think the fans down in New Orleans all understand this as well. Even home games that have been lost earlier in the year, the Fans hung around until long after the game was over, to show their support to the team.

I hate to think about it.. 2nd week of the playoffs.. Saturday Night.. New Orleans Superdome.. and what happens after a win or after a loss..

:gosaints:

Cichlid Man 01-09-2007 06:40 PM

You sound like you are preparing yourself for defeat  I think the Saints have a good team and I do not watch much football but I do catch the Saint every time I can. They have a great team and this has been a great season if not the best season yet so time to tailgate and have a good time and watch them win it will be great.

not that I'm preparing for defeat.. I sincerely believe, if the Saints play at the top of their game.. they could go as far as to blow out the Eagles as they did the Cowboys earlier in the year..
But at the same time, I've been a Saints fan for some 30 years.. I'm accustomed to hard times.. so I'm hesitant to get my hopes up too high.. My kids keep telling me how the saints are gonna kick the Eagles @#@$ this Saturday.. as they told me they would beat the Cowboys when I was worried about that game :) They don't have my years of experience.. LOL

I just hope it's a blowout.. because I don't know if my heart could handle a close game :) !!

:gosaints:

Isaac-Saxxon 01-10-2007 10:02 AM

The day of the Saints is at hand and when you buy your beers get a bunch so they have to place it in a brown bag :D Just joking there late night but you do not want to drink to many beers before they win because you might not see the end.

Isaac-Saxxon 01-11-2007 01:07 PM

This thread can not die or the Saints will :-)

I just go a email from a company I do business with in PA and I copied my friend George's email after I ask him his thoughts on the big game Sat and here it is :D

However the game turns out it should be close. I am a football fan and an Eagles fan. I was more worried about the Giants than I am with the Saints(could be false hope though) I just hope the game is good. They played a back and forth game earlier in the year hopefully its a repeat with a slightly different outcome. (George)

Oh yea it will be the same and my friend George (nice guy) will be crying come Sat :gosaints:

I keep saying to myself.. that we beat the Eagles earlier in the year.. and the close game they played against the Giants.. well the Saints beat the Giants like 30-7 a couple of weeks ago.. that.. and gosh darn it, people like me :)

I hope that game does not go to their head ? I think they play better when they come off a loss or a real close game.

Yea.. the Saints have managed to pull a couple of win streaks together this year.. all we need now is 3 game win streak and we're ALL SET !!!

The saints of old used to choke all the time under any pressure. I'm trying to recall this year.. the saints first MONDAY NIGHT home opener in New Orleans.. It was a media frenzy, and the crowd was INTENSE, and the Saints won big against the Falcons! Then there was the Sunday Night game against the Dallas Cowbows.. at the time both teams were 8-4 I believe.. fighting for that 2nd seed in the playoffs, and the saints blew them away.

Just hoping they can pull that off just a few times this year, tomorrow night, in the Dome, a divisional playoff game.. .. UGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

well, there's certainly no arguing against that :) By this time tomorrow it will be "history"

Alright folks this is it. Throwin' out all the stops today. When it comes to the saints I can be very superstitious. And try to keep things to a routine. For example, NO ONE in the house is allowed to wear any Saints jerseys on game day. Kids don't invite friends over, and I don't either, Always just me and the boys shoutin' at the T.V. Well tonight, I got some friends comin' over, kids have some friends and cousins comin' over for the big game. Saints' jerseys are optional :)

Anyone out there with some connections want to call in some divine intervention for the Saints.. please do so. I hope come half time I'm laughin' my ass off!.. I hope, I hope.

see you on the other side.

Saints are already Saints what more could they ask for :) They have the hot line and I am sure they are using it as I write this. There is no luck here just two football teams and the Saints have that home field going for them. It will be a wild night in the Big Easy.

Wow, I want to watch that game again !

Tell you what, I missed the very first Saints possession, due to a last minute trip to the store.. and I think I'm glad I did, I got back, and my kids are hollering at me "Reggie Got Hurt! Reggie Got Hurt!" I see now why they were so upset about it..

oops, sorry folks, looks like that video got pulled from YOUTUBE.

LoL there SnowMan.. I'd been worried all week about that game.. by game time it was all I could do to keep from losing it.. I'll confess right now, that if I had been sober enough when Reggie fumbled away that ball late in the 4th Quarter, I might of had a complete breakdown, but as it was, I swear I didn't even notice. Never occurred to me that we would lose that game !!

Boy was I surprised when I saw some "Highlights" of the game today, LOL

WhoDat from Houston!

Hi Ark-La-Tex Saints fans. We're Saints season ticket holders in Houston, Tx. I lived in the Toledo Bend area to the south of you a long time ago, but now live in Houston, where I work as a radio personality & traffic reporter also. Houston is the nation's 4th largest city now, & I'm right in the middle of the action, but truthfully, I'd come back to the area in a minute flat if I found the right job.

I remember being steaming mad because local tv would insist on showing the Cowboys. I thought, "Do these people not know what state they're in?"

My wife and I came to the Preseason Saints/Cowboys game back in August, and had a teriffic time, despite the awful game itself. Shreveport did it up right and turned the game into a huge event, as they should. I hope you get another game this coming fall. Count on us, if you do. The city had
plenty of sightseeing, dining, shopping, and fun. And the Saints fans tail-
gate parties were well worth the drive from Houston. Actually, youre closer
than New Orleans, and we've made the drive to N.O. 7 times this season.

Anyway just wanted to shout some encouragement to you guys in NW La. I
remember thinking I was the only Saints fan up there. Yall stick together and
wear your black & gold everywhere! Visit us at Saintsreport.com. We also
have a huge Saints following here in Houston, where we WhoDAts have OWNED the sportsbars here all season! Be sure to look us up, if you come
to H-town. I'll use any excuse to come back and visit S-port/Bossier.

WHO DAT!!!!

LateNight 01-15-2007 08:45 AM

Hey there WhoDat from Houston

thanks for stopping by !

yea, showing Dallas games instead of Saints games was always a drag for sure. But it was a reason to head down to a sports bar or the like to watch the game, which can certainly be fun too.. Especially this season.

Season ticket holder.. wow ? were you at that game Saturday night ??
I saw a clip someone had made using their cell phone or something.. the last few seconds of the game.. it was just so Incredibly loud, sounded absolutely insane ! :)
