Saddam Hussein Guilty - Sentenced to Death by Hanging

A curfew remained in effect in Baghdad and two Sunni provinces Monday, a day after former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death for his role in a brutal crackdown in 1982 in the Shiite town of Dujail.

As the courts ordered he will hang until dead. That is being nice to this evil man. I have read that people like Blair and others do not like the idea of the death sentence for Saddam. Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way ! It will take forever to get a rope on his neck but the process has started and I am happy for that.

Until dead

They should hang him until he's almost dead.

...every day for 20 years. Then when everybody has forgotten about him they should just stop feeding him.

Hang by the neck, until you are dead, Dead, DEAD!! :)

Yea hangin' seems to good for him.. and would seem to only provide fuel on an already dangerous environment.. let him rot in cell somewhere.

Latenight.

He is going to be a problem dead or alive. The King of Babylon has seen the writing on the wall and it aint good. "Is this the man (Ish) " that has killed so many people and much worse ? I think death by mustard gas would be a eye for many eyes. Yes it is the death penalty we are talking about. No repeat offenders.

My only problem with letting him live is if the democrats win and we pull out, then through the ensuing revolution, he re-enters the limelight. If we are going to pay 400 billion, then we should get our money's worth, and we should not have to pay for this ride a third time.

Lose Lose situation

No matter what is done, we all lose. If he is kept alive, then the world (Americans and Iraqis alike) will have the burden of feeding, clothing and providing him room and board for the remainder of his life. Also, if kept alive, then he could fuel an uprising that could bring him back into power. I realize this possibility is extremely slim, but you cannot disagree that it is at the very least possible, even if not feasible.

However, if he is put to death, then he could become a martyr and the fuel for insurgency may be increased.

I do think that the best thing would be to carry out the death sentence. The insurgency may get worse before it gets better, but eventually, if democracy is to survive (and if the Iraqi people want it enough), then the insurgency should theoretically subside and/or diminish completely.

Sad, but most likely true. There is a ring of reality in this statement

OK, now that is something I may be willing to pay for as a taxpayer. (out of our 400 billion of course)

Yes, this was the point I was wanting to make. I'm OK with "life in prison" as long as the Bush has the keys. I'm not a big Bush fan, and in fact, I might not trust him for any other job. LOL, but I think he would do a fine job of keeping Saddam behind bars. Better than anyone else. Especially after Saddam put out a hit on his dad. I know that would make me pretty mad personally.

True, I think this is a bad idea. Or at least he should have to wait "on death row" for 10 to 15 years like Americans do when convicted and sentenced to capital punishment. Appeals are a good thing IMO. Genetic evidence has aquitted inmates "in the nick of time" so to speak. (not in this case)

You hit the nail on the head when you say "if the Iraqi people want it enough". Either you hunger for something like the right to vote, or the right to speak, or the right to democracy, etc. or you don't. Plain and simple. Maybe when something is so far out of reach for so long, it becomes hard to really believe in. I hope the Iraqi people still have the potential to believe in the power of its people rather than the power of a single leader. Especially one with such a gawd awful wardrobe! :D
