Census Shows Shreveport Losing Ground On Population

Census estimates for July 1, 2006, show Shreveport has dropped from the 88th-most populous American city to the 98th in the past six years, falling behind places such as Durham, N.C., Lubbock, Texas, and Reno, Nev.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Shreveport's population majority being black???
I think so. My how things have changed. The white folks are leaving even if it's just over the bridge or to East Texas!

I don't think it has anything to do with race. I think that we are just running parallel to the rest of the state which is loosing ground because of our bloated government not being "business friendly". If Lousiana was the place for business, then it would be the place for jobs, and the place for people. But no tax breaks, no business, no jobs, no people..........as the dominos fall..

I think your BOTH right!;) While the buisiness climate in this state leaves much to be desired, the facts cannot be ignored. While Shreveport is losing it's population, Bossier has been the fastest growing city in the state for years. I believe the city politics of shreveport, namely the city counsel and mayor, have been harming that city for years. I could give many examples, but here are a few: The convention center-has anyone noticed how long this has been under construction? Maybe because MANY of the "contractors" were unfit but were hired because they had friends on the council or were simply a "minority"( since shreveport is officially 51% black, who's the minority?) No, that doesn't mean minorities are not qualified, just that race should NOT be a factor in these decisions. Meanwhile, Other contractors have had to go in and re-do alot.
2nd: The century tel center- while the shrevport city council was arguing over where it could be and who should benefit from its construction, Bossier said" come on over"! We built it, we own it, and we profit.
3rd: The casinos- Does anyone remember the map that was found? (I think it was from 1832 or so) The map showed the original parish line(the river) When they realized that Boomtown is technically on the shreveport side, they sued bossier for al of the revenue shreveport was "owed". The silly thing is- when bossier looked at the map, they realized that All of Eldorado and half of samstown is on the bossier side! LOL:laugh:
Why is the Bossier Boardwalk such a success and shreveport's downtown is...empty?:peace:
