Stiff penalties for those found guilty of gasoline price gouging have been narrowly approved by the House.
Something needs to be done with these gas companies that run the price up.

Yup, gas prices are too high. We need alternative fuel.

This is a horrible idea that violates pretty much every precept this country was founded upon. Only Congress could view a voluntary transaction between two parties exchanging money for a perfectly legal product as something that needs to be corrected through legislation.

Gas station: Our gas is X price, feel free to purchase it.
Motorist: OK, I will purchase that fuel at that price.
Congressman: THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!

Gas

What's outrageous is the taxes we pay on gas. If Congress really cared they would cut the taxes for the summer or until prices stabilized. What Congress is doing now is just smoke and mirrors. Cut the taxes!!!

Joe you are absolutely correct. Our country is based on capitalism which is based on economics which is based on "supply and demand". People who look for the government to save the day are misguided regarding government's purpose. I pay waaaay more in taxes than on gasoline. Who is going to save me from that!? What about greedy government "profits" which are even higher than oil and gas profits?

I know I posted this about 2 gas topics ago, but here's a refresher for the newbies that have joined since. :D

We currently pay $0.184 per gallon in Federal taxes.

Obviously I'd rather pay less, but i's not really that outrageous.
