Landrieu's unusual supporter
 

Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., has always tried to show she is among the most conservative Democrats in the Senate, and last week it appeared she had definitive proof: a campaign donation from prominent New York Republican Rep. Tom Reynolds. Landrieu's campaign finance reports showed a $5,000 donation in June from Reynolds' Together for Our Majority political action committee. It turned out not to be an endorsement, only a typographical error. The donation actually came from To Organize a Majority, also known as TOM's PAC, which is run by Sen. Tom Harkin, a liberal Democrat from Iowa. Landrieu's staff was correcting the mistake.
