School Board sued over prayer

Tangipahoa Parish school administrators already were investigating allegations of teacher-led prayer at a May graduation ceremony by the time the Louisiana ACLU filed its record sixth religious freedom lawsuit against the school system, officials said Thursday.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in New Orleans alleges that teacher Anthony Massi led the invocation at the Tangipahoa Parish PM High School graduation May 17.

The American Civil Liberties Union suit also claims Principal Dale Brouillette and attending School Board member Ann Smith did nothing to stop it.

“The School Board should stop preaching and start teaching that government-sponsored prayers in public schools are illegal,” Joe Cook, executive director of the ACLU of Louisiana, said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Shoot, I remember being in school , junior high, high school. was about as far from a "religious" person as someone could get.. the coaches during football practice always led a little prayer afterwards.. Didn't bother me none :peace:

The ACLU and liberal judges need to realize that the Constitution grants Freedom OF religion, NOT Freedom FROM religion.

Also, I bet everyone except the one person offended is fine with the prayer. Since when does one person get to ruin the experience for everyone else? It would be the same as if the person talking on the cell phone during a movie in a theater would get to continue talking, and nobody was allowed to complain.

I don't see anything wrong with prayer in school.

I have never known of a person being harmed by a prayer. I think it is a good thing for schools to have a prayer and the few that do not like it should not show up for the event if it is that big of a problem for them.

It is time for the majority of the people to take the ACLU on in court and fight to the finish. These big churches have tons of money they should come off some of it for this just cause. Real sad that one bad apple can cause such a problem. Tear it down, tear it down :nono: :nono:

People can be so thin-skinned that it makes me sick. No one is forcing them to do anything and no one is denying them any freedom. What the heck is the big deal? I may not be Christian, but wouldn't care if someone led a prayer at a public cermony. In cases like that, I bow my head and speak to my deity instead. No biggie.
