Louisiana Income Tax Cut Possible

A move to cut state income taxes for Louisiana taxpayers who itemize deductions began in a Senate committee Monday, but the proposed compromise is just the starting point of negotiations.

I just can't understand why I get a refund on federal taxes but not state. At the same time I am not seeing my tax dollars at work either. Maybe I should move to New Orleans?

Taxes

Well They are going to repeal some of the Stelly Plan. My question is why is a tax cut slowly phased in but a tax hike is immediately retroactive? I also love how the pundits say this is going to cost the state millions of dollars, why not tell us what it will save the taxpayers.

Be sure to bring a gun and watch your back....

Call me cynical but my nephew recently got mugged at gun point down there, so I have my reasons for b!tching a little. At this point, I would let them keep the extra billions if they would make Louisiana one of the top 5 safest states in the nation.. Heh heh heh, LOL, yeah right....

Well you can expect that as long as the Super dome is more important then the citizens of our state, that the "less fortunate" are going to turn to crime for their food and entertainment.

If the superdome didn't exist, our state would still be the same IMO. I would rephrase your comment and change only one word.....

It's our elected officials that are the problem, and if there is a problem with the superdome, it is because of them. I don't know about all of you, but I look forward to voting for some new names and faces in the next couple of years.

You are exactly right rhertz. These same a$$holes have been down there for years talking about change and doing nothing but wasting our money. Well we now have a very good opportunity for change and it is time to send them home.

Well I think that goes without saying. If the Saints fans were able to support their team, Mike Foster wouldn't have had to paid them $186 million over 10 years to stay. I simply use the Dome as a reference because it's about the most disgusting waste of tax dollars I can name in our state at the moment.

I have to disagree Brain. I think Francis Thompson and his ilk are the most disgusting waste of tax dollars. What about the private sugar cane mills that are struggling and we foot the bill for two brand new ones or the Hightower Hilton that no private intity would invest in, that was only 50 mil. or the unpaid golf rounds in New Orleans the state pays for the list is never ending. The state keeps getting smaller yet Govt. gets bigger.

Will the hotel provide new jobs for the citizens of our state?
Will the sugar mill provide new jobs for our citizens even if temporary, and a product to be sold at profit?

What do the Saints provide other than entertainment? Remember, the Super dome is an entity outside of the Saints and all of the jobs created as a result of that structure exist with or without the Saints just like they do in the off season with auto shows and other various exhibitions....and even if those concession stands are going bankrupt, it wouldn't cost $186 million to keep OR replace them.

Hey, I'm willing to debate the issue, I just don't see the Saints as anything more than a needless entertainment expense and I CAN find at least one piece of a silver lining in most of the other crap our state does.
