Two teens have been charged with killing the 7-year-old sister of one of them by beating her with imitations of moves from the "Mortal Kombat" video game, prosecutors said.

Lamar Roberts, 17, and Heather Trujillo, 16, were charged as adults on one count each of felony child abuse causing death, state prosecutor Robert Miller said in court documents released Wednesday and filed a day earlier.

According to a police affidavit, the teens were baby-sitting Trujillo's half-sister, Zoe Garcia, on December 6 while the girl's mother was at work.

Zoe lost consciousness and stopped breathing after the teens hit, kicked and body-slammed her, imitating moves used in the video game, the document said.

Trujillo and Roberts tried reviving the girl by putting her under running water and attempting CPR before they called her mother and 911, the affidavits stated. The girl died at a hospital.

An autopsy showed she had a broken wrist, more than 20 bruises, swelling of the brain, and bleeding in her neck muscles and under her spine, the affidavits said.
I really can't believe these teens blame a game for their actions. They knew better, they are responsible for their own actions not the game.

The witness told police that Roberts said Zoe had told them to stop wrestling. According to the affidavit, when the witness asked why they didn't stop, he responded, "I don't know; I was drunk."

When I was 15, a cousin and I role-played as Mortal Kombat characters all the time. I had a thing for Sub-Zero and she liked Katana. But we never, even once, injured each other or anyone else.

I'm with Pie on this one. The blame does not rest on the game, but the two idiots that didn't realize that it IS possible to beat a child to death. They well deserve their 48 years in prison.

My deepest condolences go out to the mother who was at work while this was going on. Now she has to endure the death of her younger daughter while her oldest goes to prison for 48 years as the one who done it. I can't imagine the grief she must be feeling.

Odd you should use the word "fatality", because in the game mortal Kombat when you pull of a special move at the end of the game it announces-"FATALITY"!

Video games don't kill people, drunken morons kill people.

Every person has probably been exposed to some sort of violence through TV, movies, newspaper, books, friends, whatever. The difference between everyperson and those boys is everyperson knows the difference between real and fake, and has some kind of self discipline which keeps them from punting a little girl to death.

If the liberals want to blame somebody other than the boys, they should blame their own "do what feels good" philosophy.
