Wow! Half a million dollars just for bond!? He could've spent $20-$50 and just got a prostitute and he'd still have his freedom and career in the end. How stupid can a guy be?

I have to wonder if internet porn and all the freaky things that can be viewed on a computer screen have produced a culture of perverts at a alarming rate.
Guys that never got the girl and unhappily married men and the freaks do to bad genes get on the net and live out factices and then the end result is to act on these factices and our kids pay the ultimate price when they catch up to one of them. I hope to see as many pedophiles in jail as they can catch.

The United States has the world’s highest rape rate of all countries that publish such data- 13 times higher than England and more than 20 times higher than Japan (12).
I'm not too sure about that, Isaac. If you've ever been overseas, you'll see that in most European and Asian countries, the concept of sex is very open and public. You can buy sexually explicit materials on street corners. I know this because I spent 6 months all over the Med while in the military in 2001. Yet, we have the largest rape rate. Is this a coincidence? I don't think so.

Only in America is the younger crowd discouraged from having any contact with that concept of sex until the proper age. And yet, we have an exceptionally high rate of sexual assaults for a country.

The question is: why in America, where sex is a highly censored topic, is the rate for sexual assaults so high? It boggles the mind. However, I think being more open and public about the concept of sex may help. Also, I really think parenting plays a big role too.

For instance, some parents of teenage sons who are reaching puberty may offer their son to an adult magazine to help sooth the anxiety that often comes with puberty. The other option is for the son to acquire the porn on his own and look at it in secret (rebelliousness). When he learns that he can get away with such behavior, he is more likely to continue doing it and he will grow into a person who believes he can get away with anything. By parents covering this topic in a controlled environment, the son sees no need to be rebellious as he grows up.

I have no hard data on this concept, but I think the porn only hurts more when society tries to hide it. That only makes it more desirable and those who seek it stray away from society to get it.

I really don't know if I personally support pornography (except for child porn of course...BAD!!!). However, I know it has been around for a long long time and societies have gotten along peacefully with it in the past. Feudal era Japan had legalized prostitution as well as ancient Greece and much of the Middle East where harem guilds were common. Pornography naturally stemmed from these industries in the form of ancient pornography. If nothing else, it may help to sooth ones neglected sexual desires as it did in these ancient times.

The old school just did not talk about it

New school talks about it and I see that my three daughters have turned out good and have the same boy friend in two cases for two to three years one is getting married 22 and 20 is ready just not quite yet. My point here is that we have be very open and they first learned in school (sex ed) about sex and then had many talks with this along the way. In 1960 my year of birth it was not talked about and thus the need for Playboy Magazine hidden around and the older brother telling me about the bees and stuff but no never mom or dad they did not even think about talking to us about it as far as we knew  they never did it. 45 years and my, my the change has come quick. I am not at all for porn movies of any type. I think it does cause a sick mind to get worse that's all. I will have to side with Judge Roy Moore on this one.

Isaac you are of rare form and you have one lucky wife that's for sure. I have did some reading in the past week about how porn affects relationships and it's interesting the differences of opinions of women vs men. I will start a topic on it and paste the link it's very interesting honestly. Most men don't realize the affects it has on their wives/gf/significant other honestly

The US is also the only country that reports rape statistics by accusation. The other countries report by conviction.

Really? That's interesting because:

Quote:

http://www.ibiblio.org/rcip/stats.html
In 2004 in the US, there were 209,880 victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assaults. 84% of women did not report their rapes to police.
SO, you're saying that we are only counting accusations and not convictions. Well, according to this website, only a handful of the reports are actually being reported to police and we STILL outnumber other countries! That's even MORE disturbing! O_o;;

joepole 02-27-2007 07:04 PM

Official crime statistics take into account unreported rapes the same way the census takes into account unsurveyed people.

AnimeSpirit 02-27-2007 07:33 PM

Well, I wouldn't know how that's done. Why don't you tell us? Drop some references here so we can figure it all out.

I have no experience or direct knowledge on how the census report is calculated, but I would assume they estimate it based on the population's growth percentage in previous years. I am familiar with technical analysis and calculating estimates based on technical trends. For instance, if the population grew by 30% in 2004 and by 40% in 2005, then it's prudent to assume the population would grow by 50% in 2006. Is that what you're referring to?

I have no data to back this up, but I wouldnt be surprised to find that fewer men are going into jobs that involve contact with children and teens. If I were a teacher, for example, I would go to great lengths to insure that not only would I never lay hands on a student in any way that could possibly be construed as inappropriate, I'd never allow myself to be in a situation where I was alone and unobserved with one. Its just too damn easy for some disgruntled kid with a chip on her shoulder to ruin a career with a single false accusation. Maybe she didnt like the grade she received...or maybe shes been fantasizing about getting "Mr. Jones" into the sack, and when she suggests it to him, he spurns her advances, thus earning her wrath. If that wouldnt scare the hell out of a male teacher I dont know what would. Reminds me of that old Police tune "Dont Stand So Close To Me".

Theres a scene in the new movie "Babel" where a disturbed young Japanese girl tries to tempt a dentist and a police detective in just such a fashion. Scare-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Ofcourse, there are plenty of teachers, both male and female, that enter into illicit relationships with underage students. I have to admit though that in the cases where the teacher is an attractive female and the lucky lil bastard "cough" excuse me, I mean VICTIM, is a young teen boy...all I can say is where the hell were those teachers when I was growing up? Thats every young boy's dream!

AnimeSpirit 02-27-2007 08:36 PM

Yikes! That is scarey. I'm glad I work at a job where I have ZERO contact with children and almost no contact with adults.

you bring up some good points.. it's my understanding that this is already the practices in most public schools.. and that is for teacher not to be alone with a student. If it's not a 'rule' per se, I do believe they try and keep it in mind, for this very reason.
