Mayor Glover Is Recognized Nationally As a Local Hero
In the spirit of the “Kennedy Center Honors”, on January 12, 2008 at the Werner Theatre in Washington DC., Black Entertainment Television (BET) will pay tribute to the most talented, most ambitious, most generous and most crusading members of African American communities across the country. Along with notables such as Dr Cornel West, Richard Parsons, Tyra Banks, and The Honorable Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover will be honored and recognized at “The BET Honors” for his work as neighborhood activist, City Councilman, State Representative and Mayor to improve neighborhoods, communities and the lives and well being of citizens. “I’m shocked and honored! I thought someone was playing a trick on me”, says Glover. “This is truly an unexpected honor. I’m extremely thankful for being blessed over the years with the support of citizens who had faith in me and elected me to various positions where I could continue to make life better for residents, at the state and local levels”. In partnership with Southwest Airlines, BET through its website bet.com asked people in cities across the nation to write-in to nominate their local heroes. “Shreveport resident “Chinyere N. Moore nominated Mayor Glover and after reviewing her impressive entry, Glover was selected to receive one of BET’s first Local Heroes awards”, says Michelle Garner, BET Vice President for Consumer Engagement. The Black-Tie event will be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer and will feature performances by John Legend, Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Stevie Wonder. |
