Aquafina Labels Soon to Spell Out That Drink Comes From Same Place as Tap Water

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,291158,00.html

Quote:
The label on Aquafina water bottles will soon be changed to spell out that the drink comes from the same source as tap water, the brand's owner PepsiCo said Friday.

A group called Corporate Accountability International has been pressuring bottled water sellers to curb what it calls misleading marketing practices.

Aquafina is the single biggest bottled water brand, and its bottles are now labeled "P.W.S." The new labels will spell out "public water source."
This does not surprise me. Most of those labels say pure spring water and the truth comes out.

Aquafina is not "spring water". It is "purified water" that has been through a process called "reverse osmosis" which is quite expensive. After the RO process comes deionization followed by carbon filtration. I bet Coralman knows what I'm talking about. In th RO process, it takes 3 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of RO water. The other two gallons are wash away the impurities as waste water.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deionized_water

Waters such as Dasani (Coke product) and Aquafina (Pepsi) product are so completely "stripped" of minerals and polutants that they actually add some pure salt/minerals back in at the end of the process to give them their distinctive flavor rather than tasting like bland distilled water.

Why would anyone want to drink purified water? First off, they can use tap water from all over the country yet after processing, the end product tastes exactly the same. (just like a bottle of Coca-Cola does) Another benefit is that there is no lead or pesticides. The down side is that there is no minerals like spring water which is good for your bones, etc.

Foxnews reporters aren't very smart today IMHO. Spring water is made by pumping spring water (usually single source) into a bottle and cap it. Purified water is WAY more expensive to produce than that. The source really doesn't matter. They could even use spring water or water from a mud puddle, but that would add extra "wear and tear" on the RO filter.

Keep in mind, just because Aquafina comes from Tap water, since it is so extremely purified, there is no Fluoride in it. Children need fluoride for their teeth. I even see distilled water with fluoride added on the shelves now. I drink tap water, spring water, and purified water. Just call me the Wa Wa Waterboy!!

Not the ones that don't come from springs.
