Snow Falls at the Boardwalk: Santa, & Mayor Walker Light Christmas Tree

12,000 Lights Shine on Tallest Christmas Tree in Louisiana

Young and old alike, they all waited patiently at the Louisiana Boardwalk for two reasons: #1, to watch the lighting of Louisiana’s tallest Christmas Tree, decorated with more than 12,000 lights & ornaments, and, most-importantly, #2, to see Santa Claus make his Boardwalk debut.

A crowd estimated at about 17,000 stood in unseasonably warm 70 degree weather, Tuesday night, November 20th, while, dance lines danced…
singers sang…bands played…and, watchers watched.

The 3rd Annual Boardwalk Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was emceed by KTBS personalities Jody Lowery and Chrissi Coile. Lisa Johnson, Executive Director of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the audience, while Kelly Wells, Vice President of Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, encouraged everyone to join in the festivities happening throughout the holidays across the Ark-La-Tex.

Soon, Bossier Mayor “Lo” Walker came to the stage, and it was time for the much-anticipated arrival of “the man of the hour”: Santa Claus! While the kids watched, Mayor Walker and Santa walked to a bright yellow box, with an On/Off switch. Then the crowd counted down, “…3…2…1” and together Mayor Walker and Santa Flipped the Switch, and, the Boardwalk Christmas Tree came to life, with thousands of brightly colored lights.

A magician appeared, and made it snow. Oh, for sure, it wasn’t the real white stuff, but for the moment, Moms, Dads, their kids, and families forgot about that, and tried to catch snowflakes on their tongues, or in their hands.

Carolers sang, and soon it was 7 o’clock: right on time, to see the Boardwalk Blizzard…making a repeat performance. The snow swirled around Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro, and, all across the lighted Fountain and Dancing Waters. For 10 minutes, many escaped from all their worries.

(Oh, by the way, The Blizzard will occur nightly at 7 o’clock in front of the Boardwalk Fountain, for 10 minutes, and it’s free to the public.)
