Christian Service Telethon raises $42,354 on Comcast CityWide TV

Christian Service Board Members, Local Dignitaries make appeals

December 10th, 2007

$42,354 was pledged to Christian Service during their Christmas Telethon, broadcast live on Comcast CityWide TV Cable Channel 6, from noon ‘til 4 Sunday afternoon, December 9th, 2007.

“it’s a real blessing,” said Brother Giovanni Reid, Executive Director of Christian Service, a non-profit service organization founded 37 years ago
by the late Sister Margaret McCaffery. Reid continued, “This gives us an excellent start to our annual budget goal of some $300,000 needed to keep Christian Service operating at capacity in 2008.”

Throughout the four-hour telethon, several board members, along with local dignitaries made live appeals to the Comcast audience, asking them to give from the heart to those less fortunate. Most helped by Christian Service are either hungry, or homeless (with others needing money to pay their utility bills and other household expenses to keep their jobs).

The most generous donation for the year, was made by the Franciscans of Cincinnati, Ohio. Father Andre’ McGrath, President and CEO of Christian Service, announced that the Franciscan order pledged a total of $13,000 for next year, $1,000 for December, and another $1,000 per month for 2008).

Donations ranged from $1 (from small children) upwards of $1,000 from some who wished to remain anonymous. Comcast CityWide TV Program Director Al Moore, along with other members of the production crew donated their time in producing the live telethon, along with parent company Comcast who donated the air-time for the 2007 telethon.

Many of the Christian Service board members, along with area dignitaries, and politications, like Caddo Parish Commissioner Stehpanie Lynch, and Louisiana State Representative Roy Burrell dropped by the Comcast studio to make donations and issue a personal appeal for pledges

Founder of Christian Service, the late Sister Margaret McCaffery, was honored on-air in remembrance for her vision to start the organization, the retired Father Kenneth Paul, who received the Sister Margaret McCaffery Service Award for 2007, was recognized for his work with Sister Margaret.
