Exclamation Atlantic Lottery SCAM Warning!

I'd like to take this opportunity to warn everyone of a nationwide scam that has apparently found its way to Shreveport. Beware suspicious letters in the mail! I have included the contents of the evelope I received below.

I received this letter from Canada under the name of a company in California (suspicious?). It stated that I had won a lottery that I have never heard of (more suspicious?) before in my life. The envelope also contained a check with my name on it for a rather hefty sum of money (with my luck, VERY suspicious). The letter told me that this check was merely a portion of the prize that was was waiting for me. All I had to do was send them $2,750 to cover the taxes on the winnings and they would FEDEX me a check for the rest of my prize (super suspicious). What caught my eye the most was that they requested I send the money back via Western Union or Moneygram. Now I know they're trying to avoid a paper trail here, so that's a BIG red flag.

This was obviously a scam and I knew it after reading the letter. I checked Google anyway and sure enough, letters like these have been received by numerous people who have been scammed BAD by this "establishment" who continues to request more and more money long after you pay the taxes. The legitimate company under which this letter is sent has issued a nationwide scam warning for this kind of letter. I turned the letter and check over to the police, but I thought I'd leave a warning here too.
