Post Official Shreveport-Bossier City Lighting Ceremony on Monday

WHAT: December on the Red Lighting Ceremony and Reindog Competition

WHEN: 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19,

WHERE: Festival Plaza, downtown Shreveport

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Bossier City Mayor Lorenz Walker will jointly flip the switch to light up the two cities at the December on the Red Lighting Ceremony, 6 p.m., Nov. 19. This ceremony is the official holiday kick-off event for the Shreveport-Bossier City area.

This year’s ceremony is being held in conjunction with ICE, a Red River Revel Holiday event. For this afternoon only, everyone can skate for half price, $5.

New to this year’s lighting ceremony is the Reindog Contest, which promises great fun for families and their pets. The competition, sponsored by the Gardens of the American Rose Center and the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux, will give residents an opportunity to parade their pets decked out in holiday-themed costumes. To participate in the Reindog Contest, pets can be registered the day of the event from 5-6 p.m. at Festival Plaza. Registration is $10.

The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Hockey Team plans to get in on the action, too, with ice hockey players and Clawed - the mascot - taking to the ice during the lighting ceremony.

Other family activities will include hands-on activities sponsored by Shreveport Parks and Recreation, as well as musical performances. Kids will also get to take free pictures with Santa and those 12 and under will receive a free light up necklace, while supplies last.
