Nick Saban vs Dan Hawkins: A Tale of Two Coaches
Alabama battles Colorado Sunday, December 30th, 2007 in the PetroSun Independence Bowl

Both are 'newbies' to their respective teams. Alabama's new head coach, Nick Sabanup against Colorado's Dan Hawkins. Both teams are 6-6 on the season. Both had upset wins, and The Tide and Buffaloes both lost some heartbreakers.

In their press conferences today, Saban said he was more impressed with his team's practice today, than yesterday...said they were “more focused,” while Coach Hawkins said he was, “...very honored to go up against Nick Saban, and Alabama, saying “...obviously you want to go up against the best, and I consider Alabama, one of the best.”

It's the first time for the Buffaloes to come to Shreveport, and Coach Hawkins said he and his team have been treated to great hospitality. Saban, likewise, is excited to be here, coaching his first college game in Louisiana since he left L.S.U. ss head coach.

An interesting “factoid” as he called it, Coach Dan Hawkins son, Cody, is the starting quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes. (Cody also happens to be a red-shirt freshman.) Hawkins said, while Cody's the Buff's QB, there are other coaches who will call his number, not his Dad.

Both Coaches had the same mantra: Start fast...play hard...avoid turnovers...and special teams play: all factors in the win. Again, it's the only Bowl Game on ESPN, Sunday, December 30th at 7:00pm. Be there.

Poor St. Nick ! He is just trying to make a living and get by

Being a college coach is not all it is cracked up to be. May the best team win ! I hope it snows.
