Don't Shoot...I want to grow up
Don't Shoot...I want to grow up
Shreveport police has released its first Public Service Announcement to encourage citizens to stop the senseless violence that has killed three young people in the City of Shreveport in the past couple of months. "Don't Shoot...I want to Grow Up" is a program in which citizens can anonymously call in information about people illegally carrying weapons. The PSA, which is currently only designed to run on radio, features a real 911 call from a mother whose son had been killed and died. You can hear the horror in her voice. It is hoped that the PSA will make people stop and think about the consequences of their actions. Other PSAs are planned for television, newspapers and billboards. Anyone with information about someone illegal carrying a weapon can earn up to $500 by calling Crime Stoppers with information on who had a gun illegally. There are a number of illegal possession laws on the books -- some that citizens may or may not know about. Here's a quick list of some of them: * Carrying a concealed firearm without a permit * Possession of a firearm or carrying a concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies * Possession of a weapon on school campus, school bus or at school-sponsored functions * Illegally supplying a felon with a firearm * Possession of firearm on premises of alcoholic beverage outlet * Possession of or dealing in firearms with obliterated number or mark * Illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile (under age 17) * Illegal carrying of a firearm at a parade with any firearm used in the commission of a crime of violence Citizens who would like some quick cash should call in their tips to Crime Stoppers at 673-7373. |

It's a sad state when our community has to call on citizens and advertise to stop killing one another! These innocent children are being killed just because they live in a bad neighborhood. It is most disconcerting as well that people would only be willing to report a crime if they are in need of "quick cash!" What happened to reporting a crime out of the goodness of your heart and the well being of mankind?

This is all our fine mayor can come up with to stop crime. His best feat yet is to get some yards cleaned up to send a message to gangsters that he will not put up with a dirty yard. One year Glover has been mayor and crime has gone up because he is afraid of his own people who commit the large majority of the crime. Yes it is sad and in three more years it will be past crisis level.
