Less than 25 U.S. WWI veterans are still alive in the U.S.

Was just reading an article about the National World War I Museum at the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, MO.

Says there are less than 25 WWI veterans still alive in the U.S.
Amazes me that there are any still alive. Seems I heard some statistic about WWII veterans and how 1000's die every day. Obviously they are getting old(er)

Sometimes I think of WWI and WWII as being 'ancient history', but when I put it in the perspective that some of these people are still alive. It's simply not that long ago. But my how much the world has changed since these folks were young and fighting in a war.

Have some grandparents who fought in WWII.. always appreciate any time I can get with them .. and every now and again, I'll get to hear a little story about this or that during the war.. Anyways, just that few of WWI vets remaining got me to thinking.

God bless all of our service men and women. These fine folks gave us there all and this generation has lost touch with what really happened and could happen again. Peace treaty is a temporary lull in war. History repeats it self and learning from the past seems to be so easy but so hard. When times are good people are bad and when times are bad people pull together and walk the line I am sure in our future there is a major correction coming. Bad as 911 was it is not the big correction to make this country "One Nation under God"
that it needs to be. "In God We Trust"

So true, well said.

Personally I'm not real hip on the draft.. but I've always wondered if we wouldn't be better off with like a mandatory 2 year term or so, even if it wasn't to serve in the "army" per se, but 2 years of public service or the like ? i'm not positive it's a good idea, but when I think about what they refer to, when they call them the "greatest generation" These folks did everything they could to 'join up' during WWII, some folks who were 4-f ? is it ? committed suicide because they COULDN'T join. A very different generation to say the least.

here's the deal. If I am a volunteer sitting in a foxhole, I want the guy next to me to be a volunteer too. Our lives might depend upon one another. If you really don't want to be there, then you probably shouldn't be. Or I mean others probably shouldn't rely on you.
