I did see in the newspaper where the good ole editor of The Times, Larry English, was opposed to the celebration!! Imagine?!

I don't care if it is black history, confederate history, world war history, or whatever history, those who do not study and recognize history are doomed to repeat it.

I'm not sure I like the word "celebrate" history. That probably is not the best way to put it. I prefer words like "study", "recognize", "learn", "acknowledge", "document", "reinactment", and so on. Slavery and war should not be "celebrated", but there is no much more to our past than slavery and war. Certainly there are things to celebrate in our past like our independence and the end of a war. But why would someone like The Times Larry English take offense?

Near the end of a City Council meeting that lasted nearly three hours, Glover directly responded to earlier comments from Larry English and Willie Bradford, who railed against the proclamation for almost 20 minutes.

I made a mistake in my post The Times said Larry English was opposed to the Confederate celebration. He is NOT the editor of the times. OOPS! Sorry!

I just have a problem when we start celebrating political holidays of other countries.

Cinco de Mayo is my least favorite. It's like a Mexican St. Patrick's Day with a heavy dose of "We want our rights". Ironically it's the celebration of Mexican independence from Spain, yet many illegal immigrants from Mexico want demand their dependence on U.S., rights and services.

St. Patrick's day is Irish, I know, but there's no political agenda attached to it. Everyone wears green, dances, and drinks a lot.

Boxing day...well...we don't do that here.

Do the English celebrate the 4th of July, Independence Day, in England?
