Things Are 'Easy' at Staples ... When Robots do the Work

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,291534,00.html

Quote:
Imagine a team of employees that works 16 hours a day, seven days a week. They never call in sick or show up late, because they never leave the building. They demand no benefits, require no health insurance, and receive no paychecks. They never complain. They spend every waking moment maximizing productivity, and their interactions with coworkers are a precise, choreographed dance.
Sounds like a bunch of robots, huh?
They are, in fact, robots-
Okay, there goes the jobs. Now instead of break rooms its oil rooms.

Well, if you're worried about losing your job to a robot, always remember that there are some jobs that robots simply can't do (i.e. creative design jobs and medical/surgical jobs).

actually they are already using robots for surgery-right here in river city! So far they are controlled by a doctor in the next room, but it's not a leap to think that he could one day be in another country, and much later, possibly that the robot could do it autonomously.

I look forward to the day I don't have to deal with unmotivated, slack-jawed "employees" at retail stores.

Our biggest problem is going to be housing the huge portion of the population that lacks the ability to maintain a job.

Damn right. Did we not have this argument when the auto industry employed robots for certain functions.

Who is going to service these robots? Not robots, somone that is trained, hello new service industry.

Here we go again about "left behind, or it's not fair we can't do this, big industry is discriminating, we need to pass a law".

Kiss my ass! Step up and get off your butt do what it takes to move ahead.
