Post Sagging Pants - Should It Be Against The Law?

Shreveport City Council is expected to discuss an ordinance amendment concerning sagging pants when it meets today. The amendment being proposed by Councilman Calvin Lester would make it unlawful for any person to appear in public wearing pants below the waist that expose skin or undergarments.

I saw where Mansfield is working on said motion. First offense fine is $266.
I can see it now.....The ass police kicking into high gear......LOL
But hey, I'm all for keeping your pants on in public. When I see these saggers I have an almost irresistible urge to go yank their pants up

It's a funny thing when laws have to be passed to get people to act right instead of people just wanting to act right on their own. Are laws getting rediculous or are people getting rediculous?

I am with Jesse on this one. I too suffer from the urge to either roll my car window down and yell " Pull your darn pants up", or stop and pull their pants up for them and then go a step further by tying them on. I absolutely can't stand the whole sagging bit and seeing anybody's underwear. The only ones I want to see are Mr. Belles. Period.

Big Brother

I too think the fashion look of "sagging" is a dumb look. My concern is having our government try to legislate it. If the law holds up as constitutional; and I think someone will challenge it and win, then what is to stop our government from outlawing sandals... or cowboy boots... or two piece bathing suits, etc..
They have already put a big dent in smoking, and No, I don't care. I don't smoke. But what if they outlaw chewing gum?

yes, I agree.. I can't stand this sagging business.. but when they start passing laws like this, they get a little vague, and open to someone's interpretation.

This is a very good point howela !! Now after reading your post I would say that private property owners can make the rules for there property. I think this would bring business to the stores that enforce this rule. Money talks and butt cracks walk to a place where it is part of the culture. The Board Walk is a good case of people with money will go there because they feel safe and the gangsters do not like it there. The three Ls location, location, location. Let the butt cracks have their part of town if the property owner wants that so be it.

Appropriate rule

Why not let the saggers be reprimanded the old fashion way..... put to public ridicule and scorn.... then beat up by the other kids.

Ditto my sentiments exactly!Where would we draw the line?
Too bad people can't just see what is or isn't tasteful on their own accord! That's another whole topic in itself.

Can't we have one month where Shreveport doesn't embarrass itself on the national news.

This law is as ridiculous as the person who proposed it.

Obviously you can't read.... Mansfield passed the law and made the National news. Shreveport is considering it and hasn't made the National News yet.
