I'm not trying to disaprove anything, but I'd like to take a stab at how animals can tell time. Based on my own observations, people can estimate the current time by unconsciously calculating the speed and topics of their own comtemplation. If you spent roughly 5 minutes thinking about ice cream then progressed into comtemplating banana splits, then you can estimate that roughly 10 minutes have passed. I assume animals can estimate the time the same way.

I know that my super smart dogs can tell time! The maid says that everyday at about 4:50 they all line up on the back of the couch and start watching out the driveway. She says it is like clockwork when I am gone. They know Mom is on her way home and it's time to keep an eye on the driveway!!!!!

Mother nature is a very strong force

Yes animals notice so much more than we do or can do. I like to go fishing and they know when to feed under low pressure and what time of year to move deep with out being told Funny how bad weather makes all animals nervous and they say they can sense changes in the earth. It makes the fish bite big time.
