I've heard of a "cop gone bad" before, but never a fireman gone bad.... I wonder what the motive was?

I read a book a number of years back about this Fire Marshall, or maybe the guy was a Fire Chief, up in Indianna I think...this guy was going around and setting fire to major businesses, with lots of casualties. The motive was that he'd set the fire, then respond to the alarm, so that he could "save the day"..sort of a hero thing. After years and years of getting away with it, some saavy detective figured out it was him, and they got him. The guys rotting in jail somewhere to this day. True story.
