Sixth-grader Matt Porter didn't enjoy getting "Most Likely Not To Have Children" and "Sir Clowns-a-Lot" awards from two teachers at his school
Well this takes the cake.

1. What is an "Intermediate Learning Center?"

2. I don't get the "least likely to have children" award. Is he gay? Did he get hit in the nuts at some point?

It's a cruel award for a "teacher" to give out, but we seem to be having lots of trouble with teachers these days and their judgement.

I don't get it so I can't make judgments about its appropriateness/cruelty.

I can't think of anything positive you would mean by "least likely to have children".

For cryin' out loud, nobody can take a joke anymore.. I betcha, this kid was the freakin' class clown.. Teachers probably thought a little payback was in order. Who knows.. but I see they are saying the kid needs Therapy now ??? give me a break.

I doubt it's positive, but that doesn't mean it is inappropriate or cruel.

It's is completely inappropriate and cruel and a notice should be added to this teachers folder as evidence of a habitual problem should these lapses in judgment continue....and although I seriously doubt the children need therapy, I can understand how being presented with this "awards" in front of their classmates would be somewhat traumatizing.

I sure would love to hear the "other side" of this story.. 6th graders can be big pains in the ass. If the teachers involved are "good" teachers.. I would tend to think this kid had it coming.. other than that, we'll all just have to speculate.

Sometimes when a kid is being a horses' ass, you have to call them on it

Children should never have it coming. If they cut-up, you punish them, you don't hold a grudge until the end of the year then publicly humiliate them in front of the whole class....that's a sign of someone with their own problems.

I'm not suggesting these teachers should be punished or reprimanded in any way what so ever. They should simply be told to refrain from such activity in the future...their boss doing his or her everyday job and taking extra note of the particular problems each of his employees displays.

I agree Brain. If it were high school it might have been a different story but this is a middle school aged kid being humiliated by authority figures in his own school in front of his peers. I can't even imagine the boys humiliation at having the entire school laughing at him and no one to tell them to cut it out!

I still don't get the "have children" one so I can't comment on its cruelty, but a "Sir Clowns a lot award" isn't exactly "humiliating."

When my 18 y/o son was in sixth grade at Evangel and it was time for their graduation, we (the parents who organized graduation) let the students in the classes vote on several "awards" for the students. There was one award per student. The awards were things like "Most Likely to Suceed", "Most Likely to be a Doctor, "Most likely to marry a Hollywood Star", "Most likely to be a rocket scientist" and etc. You get the idea. The awards were all on the positive side and none of them poked fun at anyone. Each student received an award at graduation and they were so excited to see which one they won. It was a positive experience for all even the boys and girls who were trouble makers all year long.

My whole point is there is a time and place for everything and some things have no place. Humiliating the point or even giving the merest hint of humiliation was unnecessary. If the boy was a behavior issue, he should have been dealt with at the appropriate time and not like this. None of us would like our children being treated that way and you know it.

There is no excuse for the comment least likely to have children, kids their age aren't studying becoming parents. As for as the clowning part they could have said it in a manner that showed they were joking with him not cutting him down which seems to be the way he took it. Also the teachers were told to apolgize for hurting his feelings and they won't, so that tells me they were not playing with him.
