Post Porter’s ‘Coats for Kids’ Campaign wraps-up Saturday, January 5th

By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, SBLive!
December 3rd, 2007

The deadline for donating to ‘Coats for Kids’ is this Friday, January 4th, because, Saturday, January 5th, 2008 volunteers will start distributing them to those in need.

Started some 19 years ago by Porter’s Fine Dry Cleaners, the ‘Coats for Kids’ campaign began with Mark Porter, who proposed the idea to his Dad, the late John Porter. The rest, as they say, “…is history.”

According to Mark Porter, this year will see more than 6,500 coats donated. (then, cleaned, and repaired, if necessary by Porter’s) Their partners in this project, Goodwill Industries, and KSLA- TV 12, help in both media awareness, and collection.

This year’s public distribution of coats is this Saturday, January 5th, from 9am – 11:30am
At Goodwill Industries main location at 800 West 70th St., in Shreveport, …or, Porter’s Cleaners main office, 512 Benton Road, Bossier City. Individuals wanting coats for their children are asked to bring some sort of proof of need to either location.
