Posted by: Tom Pace - April 02, 2008

"Suicide is preventable."  That's the message from Dr. Jody Meek, a licensed psychiatrist, and Director of Clinical Services for the Office of Mental Health Region VII, in Shreveport.

Dr. Meek told "The Talk of the Town with Tom Pace" that the 2nd Annual Suicide Awareness Conference has received a large number of attendees registering for the Friday, April 4th, event at the LSU-S University Center from 9a-6p. The public is invited- and registration is only $5 at the door.  Listen, as Dr. Meek talks in-depth, One-on-One with Tom Pace about "Suicide" better known as the "Silent Epidemic".

According to Meek, "Nationwide there were 32,439 reported suicides in 2004, that meant one person took their own life every 16 minutes...and, here in Louisiana, some 500 per year commit suicide - that's more than one per day in our state."
