Natíl Wx Service issues Hazardous Weather Outlook for Winter Weather across Ark-La-Tex

A winter weather mix of light freezing rain, and sleet is possible during the early morning hours on Friday, January 25th, before ending from west to east across the Ark-La-Tex Friday night. 


The National Weather Service issued this hazardous weather outlook for southeast Oklahoma... northeast Texas...southwest Arkansas...northwest & north central Louisiana, Thursday, Jan.24th.


Forecast for the rest of tonight: Areas of light freezing rain and sleet will develop and move into the Interstate 30 corridor of northeast Texas ...southeast Oklahoma, and southwest Arkansas during the overnioght hours.


Temperatures over these areas are expected to be near or below freezing as the precipitation moves in...allowing for icing to begin over elevated objects... such as bridges and overpasses...trees and power lines. At this time...ice accumulations of a few hundredths...to two tenths of an inch will be possible through at least midday Friday mainly along and northwest of a Mount Vernon, Texas...to Texarkana and Hope, Arkansas line.


Farther south across northeast Texas and north Louisiana along the Interstate 20 corridor between Tyler. Texas and Minden, Louisiana...a mixture of sleet and light freezing rain will be possible early Friday morning, but any icing potential will be dependent on the freezing line at the surface.


The best potential for a glazing of ice now appears to be between and north of a Shreveport to Minden, Louisiana line. However, temperatures are expected to warm above freezing around midmorning Friday...thus ending any icy threat.


Elsewhere across deep east Texas and west central Louisiana...areas of light rain can be expected tonight and Friday.
