BREAKING 9-30-09 Meadows Museum of Art Annual Membersí Gala: Sun, Oct 4th at Ernestís

SHREVEPORT, LA (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town) BREAKING: MEADOWS MUSEUM FUNDRAISER 2pm 9-30-09 Itís sure to be a big event this Sunday for the Meadows Museum of Art Membersí Gala at Ernestís Orleans Restaurant on Sunday, October 4. A very special buffet will be featured by Chef Ernest, along with a cash bar, a silent art auction, and live entertainment by guitarist Michael Susano.

This annual Meadows Museum fundraiser is 5:30 - 8:00pm, and tickets are $60 each for members, ($75 per person for non-members), with memberships starting at $35. (The Friends of the Meadows request reservations by Friday, October, 2nd but payment at the door this Sunday evening is acceptable).

The Friends of the Algur Meadows Museum special guests for the 2009 gala are Jolie and Robert Shelton of Lafayette, who have assembled the Martele collection now on view at the Meadows Museum of Art, and John Webster Keffe, Curator for the Decorative Arts at the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Ernest's Orleans Restaurant is located at 1601 Market Street in Shreveport. Buffet items for the dinner include fruit and cheese, boiled shrimp, Ernestís world-famous marinated crab claws, mini-muffulettas, cubed steak and mushrooms, fried shrimp with remoulade sauce and fried catfish.

Among the artists featured in this year's art auction are Jerry Wray, Clyde Connell Betty Freidenberg and Maria Lopez. The artworks offered for auction are in a variety of media including watercolors, photographs, paintings, drawings, jewelry, etc. During the gala and silent auction, the competitive bidding is done among fabulous food, great surroundings and engaging company.

The Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College of Louisiana is an educational unit of the College charged with the collection, conservation, preservation and interpretation of visual art works of museum quality from the permanent College Collection inclusive of the Indochina Collection of Jean Despujols.

This comprehensive Collection represents the aesthetic achievements of a variety of world cultures and includes works by George Grosz, Emilio Amero, Mary Cassatt and Alfred Maurer. The Meadows Museum of Art has received a copy of The Triumphal Arch of Maximiliian I by Northern Renaissance artist and engraver Albrecht Durer.

The Museum augments its permanent collections by maintaining a rigorous temporary exhibition schedule designed to reflect the diversity and interests of the regional community by presenting the highest level of aesthetic achievements of individuals and cultures.
