SHREVEPORT, LA From The Times (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town) BREAKING: AIR FORCE BOMB TECH, BAFB SR. AIRMAN BRYAN BELL KILLED BY I.E.D. EXPLOSION IN AFGHANISTAN Posted 1-6-12 There's sadness in the Barksdale Air Force Base Community, as they mourn the loss of Sr. Airman Bryan Bell, killed by an IED explosive in Afghanistan.

The explosive ordnance disposal technician from Barksdale was killed in Afghanistan, according to a colleague of the technician’s wife present when she got notification of her husband’s death. Listen as Preston Friedley relates the sequence of events to Tom Pace.

According to the Times story, Bryan Bell, 23, was a graduate of Louisiana Tech. His wife Alaina, who manages a Shreveport UPS store, was notified of his death Thursday at the store by Barksdale Air Force Base, according to store owner Preston Friedley.

BAFB nor the Department of Defense have confirmed his death. “We’re very saddened by this whole situation,” Friedley said. Bell was photographed for an Associated Press report on explosive disposal expert’ reaction to “The Hurt Locker” in 2010. The film details the story of an elite U.S. Army bomb squad during the Iraq War.

Bell served in Iraq at the time of the photo and told his hometown newspaper, the Erie Times-News, following its release that being an EOD technician was the job he always wanted.

Bell had been an EOD technician since May 2007, according to his Facebook profile. He described himself on Facebook as “an all around guy” and one who “loves music, friends and family.
