SHREVEPORT, LA  (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town)  BREAKING 11:45AM  4-21-08   Shreveport Regional Airport will be getting a new a second parallel taxiway for one of its runways, according to Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu.

The $1.9M taxiway, will serve the cargo apron and freight facility, reducing the likelihood of accidents on the runway. The taxiway will primarily be used by FedEx, United Postal Service (UPS), DHL and the U.S. Postal Service.

“These funds will greatly improve cargo transport at Shreveport Regional Airport,” said Sen. Landrieu, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “Shipping to and from northwest Louisiana will be much more efficient, and service will improve for our businesses and families.”

“We certainly appreciate the Senator’s support on all of our airport projects and on the federal funding of our airport projects,” said Roy Miller Jr., director of airports for the Shreveport Regional Airport.

“We could not do this without her support," he said.  The taxiway is the first major development on the west side of the facility. It will support the air cargo carriers that benefit northwest Louisiana, northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas.
