Update: 1:05pm Edwards Quits: No Endorsement for Obama or Clinton at this Time
Wednesday, Jan 30, 2008 8:06am

CNN (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, "Talk of the Town") Update 1:05pm  Democratic nominee, former Sen. John Edwards dropped out of the Presidential race today.  Edwards made the announcement in New Orleans, LA. (ironically, the same city in which he declared his run to be the 2008 Democratic presidential nominee)

"It is time for me to step aside so that history can blaze its path," Edwards said,  adding, he couldn't predict "who will take the final steps to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.," but concluding, "it will be a Democrat."
An aide said Edwards does not plan to endorse either Clinton or Obama at this time, but he may do so in the future.

According to CNN, Edwards said he has spoken with Obama and Clinton, and received their pledge to make poverty a top issue of their campaigns and -- if either reaches the White House -- a central part of their administration.

This all comes, following reports that also today, Rudy Giuliani (who came in a distant third in the Sunshine State) will announce his withdrawal from the GOP presidential race.  Giuliani is rumored to be endorsing Sen. John McCain, who finished first in the Florida Republican Primary, yesterday.

All this makes for excellent political fodder:  Now that the Kennedys have endorsed Barack Obama, how will that affect Hillary Clinton's campaign...and, will the Giuliani factor help, or hurt McCain.  Stay tuned
