11:30pm 4-23-08: Tom Pace Interviews Buddy Flett on "Benefit Concert for Buddy" at The Strand
Thursday, Apr 24, 2008 8:14am
SHREVEPORT, LA  (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town)  BREAKING: ENTERTAINMENT  11:30pm  4-23-08   Buddy Flett is a guitar legend known across the country.  He almost died back in February from a case of viral encephalitis, probaly contracted from the bite of a mosquito carrying the West Nile virus.  That's as bleak as it gets.

The good news today, I can report, is that Buddy Flett is well on the road to recovery, walking, talking, smiling, and thankful to be alive.  Click here to listen as Buddy tells me, in his own words, how it was at the worst point in his fight for life, and what it means today to have a community rally around him, and stage a "Benefit Concert for Buddy" at the Strand Theatre.

When Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and his dad Ken, heard of Buddy's plight, they worked some magic with a lot of local musicians and friends, and organized a benefit concert to raise money so that Buddy can pay for continued rehabilitation, speech therapy, and living expenses.

That show is this Sunday, April 27th, 7pm at Shreveport's Strand Theatre.  Besides Kenny Wayne, blues great Hubert Sumlin is also donating his time and talents, joining a long list of area musicians on stage to make this a most memorable night for Buddy's comeback career.

The musical talent lineup is absolutely "the best"...thanks to many behind-the-scenes organziers like Michael Long, Karl Hasten, John Howe, Jerry Beach, Mike McCasky, Buddy's brother Bruce, and so many others. In fact, Buddy tells me, Jerry Beach has been working with him on learning some songs on the guitar, and he (Buddy) will be on-stage performing.

Here's the evening's entertainment lineup (subject to change)
for the price of a ticket: $25, $35, or $100 VIP:

Kenny Wayne Shepherd...Hubert Sumlin...Jerry Beach...The Bluebirds...
Jay Davis...Eddie Giles... Miki Honeycutt...Noids!...Professor Porkchop... John Howe...The Roscoes...Johnny Palazzotto...Maggie Warwick, & more.

Tickets may be purchased by calling The Strand Theatre box office at
318- 226-8555, or buy them at the door, day of the Benefit Concert, Sunday, April 27th, 7pm.

*The VIP Tickets (front row seating in the Orchestra Pit area) come with a a Pre-Show Meet & Greet opportunity to see Kenny Wayne, Hubert Sumlin, Buddy and other performers about 6pm in a special green-room at the Strand Theatre.
