Super Tax Day: Thurs. Jan. 31st- FREE Tax Prep & E-Filing: Call 2-1-1 for Eligiblity Requirements

SHREVEPORT,LA (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town 1/30/08  Every April 15th, the tax man cometh, and the people giveth. However, this time, eligible tax filers can get a break, with FREE Tax Preparation and Filing by The Northwest Louisiana Asset Building Coalition (NWLABC) in collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Social Services, the Louisiana Department of Revenue, and the I.R.S.

Coordinated by 2-1-1 Centerpoint, "Super Tax Day" is this Thursday, January 31st, from 9am til 4pm. Counselors will be on hand for FREE Tax Prepreparations, & E-Filing for eligible tax payers at
Municipal Auditorium, 702 Elvis Presley Blvd., Shreveport, LA.

Interested persons may call/dial 2-1-1, or 318-227-2100, to find out if you are eligible, and "What the IRS may OWE YOU!" The Super Tax Day program is for low-to-moderate income workers with incomes between $12,590 & $39,783 (filing status applies).

The coalition’s objective is to help ensure that eligible Tax Filers take advantage of Earned Income Tax Credits and several other eligible credits to provide them with greater access to income for their individual household needs.


The FREE Tax Preparation and Filing for eligible taxpayers comes with no filing fees, no loans, no interest, and no hassles. The coalition also strives to offer additional services to those who have need, i.e.; financial literacy, money management, credit repair, and asset building as available within their communities.

F.Y.I.  The Brookings Institute” reports that less than 2% of EITC Claimants use FREE Tax Assistance Services, and that the estimated EITC Claims filed annually in Louisiana, equals =   $1 Billion dollars x 10%, or, $100 Million dollars of ESTIMATED  and UNCLAIMED EITC dollars due Louisiana low income workers


Individuals and families interested in taking advantage of this program should review the following eligibility guidelines:

• Household income cannot exceed $39,783 (married filing joint).
• You have not worked and/or lived in another state during 2007 (unless
  you are a victim of Katrina or Rita, and were displaced to either of
  these disasters).
• You must have been a U.S. Citizen or resident alien for all of 2007.
• You must have a valid social security number.
• You cannot be filing as "married filing separately."
• You are not the qualifying child of another person.
