BREAKING 1:30am 5-13-08: 3rd Annual Water Resource Festival May 16 & 17 at La. Boardwalk

BOSSIER CITY, LA.  (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town) BREAKING COMMUNITY NEWS: 1:30am 5-13-08  Noon, Saturday, May 17th, on the Red River near Shreveport’s Texas Street Bridge, the Coast Guard will re-enact the Katrina Rescue operations of 2005, using the boats and helicopter similar to the ones featured in “The Guardian” movie filmed in Shreveport-Bossier starring Kevin Costner. 

Friday and Saturday,  May 16th and 17th, from 10am to 4pm, the Louisiana Boardwalk, LLC, in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Aquatic & Wildlife Education Foundation will host the 3rd Annual Ark-La-Tex Water Resource Festival. 

The weekend event is free to the general public at the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City. The overall purpose is to promote boat & water safety and educate the public about topics concerning the Red River.  Various booths will present information, literature, and presentations on topics such as: boat & water safety, fish biology, fly fishing, waterfowl, weather watch, disaster preparedness, water quality, alligator tales, amphibians on the Red River, river history and commerce.  

Special attractions for the kids include alligator tales, water safety prizes, and
fish identification classes, plus on Saturday, children's life jackets will be given away while supplies last, courtesy of the Bass Pro Shop at the Boardwalk. 

Local, state, and national agencies will be represented, giving information on changes to boating regulations and inspections.

, area school groups will attend the opening day events of the Water Resource Festival, listening to noted experts who will tell them about water resources and water quality; boat and water safety; fish biology and identification; waterfowl on the river; weather; and coastal restoration.
