BATON ROUGE, LA (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town) BREAKING POLITICS: 10am 5-22-08  The NY Times first reported Wednesday,  that Sen. John McCain is hosting a Vice-Presidential candidate short-list meeting this Memorial Day Day weekend. Talk of the Town with Tom Pace reported yesterday that Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and his wife Supriya will be spending the Memorial Day weekend with the Senator, his wife Cindy, and several others at McCain's Arizona ranch.

It's been reported that presumptive Republican nominee John McCain will meet this weekend with two governors and a former primary rival long rumored to be on his vice presidential shortlist, CNN confirms – though senior advisers insist the visit is just a social one.

The news that Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will visit McCain at his home in Arizona was first reported by the New York Times Wednesday.

Campaign advisers downplayed the visits, telling CNN’s Gloria Borger that the McCains were hosting 18-20 supporters as a way to show thanks for their help during the campaign. Other guests, according to one adviser, include Kansas Senator and former Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback and his wife, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman and her husband, FedEx founder Fred Smith and his wife, and senor adviser Charlie Black and his wife.

"I know you all want it to be about the vice presidential process but that is not what it is about," Black told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King. "This is a social weekend as the Senator and [his wife] Cindy very much enjoy having when they can get a break from campaigning… There are nine couples coming for the weekend and those three happen to be among them.

That news about Jindal's visit with McCain came this afternoon to "The Talk of the Town with Tom Pace" from Melissa Sellers, the Governor's Press Secretary.

According to Sellers, "The Governor has met with the Senator many times before and discussed the challenges facing the Gulf Coast region as communities continue to rebuild. The Governor looks forward to joining Senator McCain and his other guests this weekend, and he values this as another opportunity to meet with a national leader, and the potential next President of the United States, to discuss issues important to the future growth of Louisiana."
