BREAKING 5-29-08 BPCC Announces New "Cyber Center for Excellence" & Cyber I.T. Programs

BOSSIER CITY, LA (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town)  BREAKING: CYBER EDUCATION 6:30pm  5-29-08   Bossier Parish Community College will house the new "Cyber Center for Excellence" for the state of Louisiana.  That major announcement was made by BPCC Chancellor Tom Carleton, and Jim Henderson, Senior VP for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System during an afternoon news conference.

Calling it "...a new industry for Louisiana," Carleton said he had received word today that the state is funding $224,000 towards the facility and equipment for this new Cyber Center being built at BPCC. 

The "Cyber Center for Excellence" at BPCC will implement five new degree programs, and one certificate program within the newly-designed Cyber Information Technology Division.  Click to watch this KTBS-TV3 story.

"The degrees/certificate programs, which will provide a different approach to cyber training, will concentrate on workforce training for individuals who want to enter the cyber technology field," said Chancellor Carleton, who added, "Bossier Parish Community College will offer basic courses in specialized, well-paying fields, in support of the Cyber Innovation Center to be constructed." 

The curriculum for the new Cyber academic programs was granted conditional approval by the Louisiana Board of Regents back on April 24th, 2008.  Carleton & Henderson both said that full aproval is expected at the Board's upcoming August meeting.
