CRIME WATCH 6-2-08 Sheriff Prator: Caddo Crimes Down 27% - More Jail Space Needed
Tuesday, Jun 03, 2008 6:11am
SHREVEPORT, LA  (By: Tom Pace, Talk of trhe Town)  BREAKING: CRIME WATCH  9pm 6-2-08  Crime in Caddo Parish is down 27% over a 10 year period 1997-2007, according to Sheriff Steve Prator's report to the Caddo Parish Commission today.

The rest of Sheriff Prator's report is also very revealing:
There is a definite & strong correlation between arrests and crime in Caddo Parish. Crime has a downward slope trend when arrests have a upward slope trend. Those statistics led the Sheriff to conclude:

"Caddo Correctional Center will be over capacity by 2009." As a matter of fact, as this study was being finalized on Memorial Weekend, 2008, the prisoner population exceeded 1,500. Therefore, according to Sheriff Prator:

"The Problem is that the Caddo Correctional Center population has exceeded jail capacity. Caddo Parish is housing 1,500 prisoners in a jail designed to house 1,070."

Based on this: Prator says: "We must increase our jail capacity."
