COMMUNITY: Southern University Cooking Classic Honors Ernest Palmisano, Jr - June 21stKnown for his world-famous marinated crab claws, Palmisano is the owner of Ernest's Orleans Restaurant in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is receiving a special tribute from the Gentleman's Cooking Classic, while U.S. Rep. Jim McCrery and Harrah's official Geno Iafrate — senior veep/general manager of Horseshoe Casino & Hotel and Harrah's Louisiana Downs, are the evening's "Honorable Southern Gentlemen." It's expected that some 60 local celebrity chefs will be competing in this year's Cooking Classic, all competing for the Top Chef Honors in various categories. According to Maggie Martin of The Times, SWEPCO official John Hubbard serves as chairman for the see-and-be-seen event and Jean Ware, member of the Southern University Board of Supervisors, is co-chair. The public is invited to attend, and sample the dishes created and cooked by the chefs this Saturday night, 6p-9pm in the Red River room at Harrah's Louisiana Downs, in Bossier City. Admission is $25 for Adults, $10 for Children 6-13. Proceeds from the Cooking Classic go to scholarships for students at Southern University Shreveport, as well as Campus Enhancement.
