SHREVEPORT, LA (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town) BREAKING ENVIRONMENT 12N 7-2-08  The “Everything Green Expo,” the Ark-La-Tex region’s first show to focus on green initiatives will debut at the Shreveport Convention Center, August 22-24, 2008.

David Mitchell, the "Everything Green Expo" producer made the announcement at a Monday press conference at the Convention Center on July 1st.

The the big three-day show will feature products and hands-on educational programs designed to help individuals and businesses find ways to save money and better utilize natural resources.

“With gas prices at an all-time high, and electric rates going even higher, everyone is seeking ways to economize,” said Mitchell. “This event brings together in one place local businesses and experts in the field of conservation and green construction, to help answer those questions with information about the latest products and money-saving tips."

Mitchell added, "We are please to have the participation of SWEPCO and Center Point along with Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell working with our citizens at this time when the rising cost of energy is in everyone’s focus.”

On Friday, August 22 the Louisiana Chapter of the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC), one of the event’s sponsors, will conduct a series of workshops for the construction industry to introduce the LEEDS Rating System, and discuss solar options, recycling and energyefficient
thinking.

The Friday Workshops will take place in the theater located on the show floor of the Convention Center, and participants are eligible for CEU credits.

Partnerships highlighted for the event include Pratt Industries, The City of Shreveport and Shreveport Green, and Everything Green Expo, LLC, with the USGBC.

Last month, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover launched Let's Go Green a campaign that includes Shreveport's new curbside recycling campaign and the highly successful Operation T.B.O.N.E. (Taking Back Our Neighborhoods Everyday).

According to Glover, "By going green, Shreveport will be at the very heart of one of the largest recycling programs in the South. By going green, we're taking one more giant step to becoming the next great city of the South."

“SMG joins the City in expressing how extremely pleased we are to host this exciting and timely new event at the Shreveport Convention Center,” said Sam Voisin, SMG general manager.

“I cannot think of a more relevant topic than green initiatives. In fact, the
Convention Center has introduced several new programs in recent months to address the issue, including, among others, a new energy management program and the implementation of eco-friendly paper products in our food service area,” said Voisin.
