SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER, LA  (By: Tom Pace, Talk of the Town) BREAKING: PATRIOTIC EVENTS 3pm  7-3-08    The United States of America celebrates her 232nd birthday on the 4th of July, 2008...and, she's still standing proud.  Nationally, and here in Shreveport-Bossier, military and patriotic events will dot the landscape of America this Friday.
Click here to listen to Tom's salute to the 4th of July.

Parents will visit relatives, salute their veterans, as well as those members of the military still fighting the war on terror on foreign soils and here at home.  As Lee Greenwood sings, "The Flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away."

Many events will be happening across the Ark-La-Tex on the 4th of July:

* KSLA Riverblast Fireworks Display, in Shreveport, along the Clyde Fant Parkway-Festivities begin at 5pm; the Fireworks Show at 9:20pm.

* Harrah's Louisiana Downs Fireworks Show in Bossier City features a most electrifying fireworks show to patriotic music, starts at 9pm.

As a reminder, "Caddo sheriff’s deputies will be on the Red River this Fourth of July weekend, enforcing laws pertaining to water safety," said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Deputies working as part of the Red River Patrol Task Force will operate four boats on the river and man a command post at the Stoner Avenue boat launch.

The deputies will be enforcing laws including those pertaining to DWI, littering, and careless and reckless operation. They also will check to ensure boaters have the proper number of personal floatation devices and that no boats are overloaded.

***Special Note: Starting at 8:30 p.m. Friday night, officials will stop boat traffic on the river between I-20 and Twelve Mile Bayou to allow for the KSLA Riverblast fireworks display. River traffic will reopen shortly after the show concludes.
