BREAKING 7-7-08 1st Time Ever: La. Music Commission To Meet in Shreveport-Bossier July 9th

SHREVEPORT, LA (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town) BREAKING: MUSIC NEWS  4:15pm 7-7-08 History is being made this Wednesday, July 9th at 10am in Shreveport-Bossier.  For the first time in history the Louisiana Music Commission (LMC) is holding its official board meeting in Shreveport, at the SWEPCO Business Center.  Special guests from France, New York, and Nashville will be attending the state board meeting in Shreveport, Louisiana. 

The LMC Board is a group of fifteen music industry professionals from all parts of the state who serve as volunteers sharing their professional expertise to further the development of the Louisiana music industry. Members are appointed by the Governor and the board is under the auspices of Assistant Secretary, Don Pierson of the Department of Louisiana Economic Development in Baton Rouge.

The LMC Board is in the process of developing a strategic plan to further the business of Louisiana music. The plan will include infrastructure development incentives, music industry education, job creation, and branding, promotion & marketing on a regional, national and global scale.

Louisiana Music is highly recognized in all parts of the world. Many music historians boldly declare that it is the greatest array of original music on the planet. All regions of the state can boast of tremendous musical talent that has risen to the pinnacle of legendary status throughout the past century to the present day.

The goals of the LMC are to encourage awareness of the value of Louisiana Music as a huge industry asset to the state and its regional communities. The LMC is using successful models from neighboring states in the South, including the phenomenal past 20-year developments in Austin, Nashville, Memphis and Branson. These cities have wisely used their roots music assets in creating vital images and brands that link into comprehensive development of cultural industry centers of enrichment.

The LMC believes that Louisiana has the most phenomenal potential of all because of the authentic music origins and historic treasures that blends throughout our entire culture. Governor Jindal is enthusiastically endorsing music & entertainment industry development throughout the state, including the related interactive digital media.

The LMC was founded in 1980 by Lynn Ourso who now serves as the Executive Director. Shreveport Commissioners are LMC Chairman, Maggie Warwick, and Commissioners Ernest Lampkins and Ken Shepherd. LMC Commissioners from other regions include, Bill Boles, Jr., (Monroe), Cynthia Semien, Lisa Stafford, Todd Mouton, Marcus Brown, (Lafayette), Johnny Palazzotto, (Baton Rouge), Arthur Pulitzer, John Snyder, Gregory Davis, Edgar Gankendorff, Don Marshall, (New Orleans).

Special guests representing the MIDEM Conference of Cannes, France will feature music industry marketing experts JP Bommel from France & New York, and Paul Zamek from Nashville. They will present a fascinating program beginning at 10:AM. (See details below.) Reid Wick of The Recording Academy will also present opportunities for membership in the GRAMMY organization.
