BREAKING 7-9-08 "Paddlin' Professor" Swims Two Miles in Cross Lake for NSU Tennis Endowment
Briggs two-mile swim is to help promote and raise awareness for the Lydia Briggs Tennis Scholarship Endowment at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Click here to listen on an exclusive "One-on-One" interview with Briggs by Tom Pace.
Briggs, an adjunct NSU professor, & world-class, long-distance champion swimmer will make the two-mile swim in Cross Lake starting at 10am Thursday morning, July 10th. He will utilizie the span of the Cross Lake Bridge (that's approximately 2 miles long) as a guide.
Dr. Briggs will be taken out to the starting point at the bridge by boat and will swim 2 miles ending at Melvin's Landing (by land--Cross Lake Blvd.), and then by boat back to the Lowe-McFarland merican Legion Post.
For the past seven summers, he has made at least one swim of 2+ miles to bring attention to the endowment he started at NSU to honor his late wife’s memory.
Lydia Briggs was an avid tennis player. Dr. Harry Briggs is currently an adjunct political science professor at the NSU-Leesville campus.
This is the third straight year Briggs has done a long-distance swim in Shreveport, going 2 miles last year on Cross Lake and 2 miles in Red River the year before.
