BREAKING 7-11-08 Chris McCaa(Professor Porkchop) Makes History at Fairfield Studios July 13thAs Professor Porkchop, McCaa is making history by headlining the House Concert Series at Shreveport's Fairfield Studios: the first time a local artist has been given such an opportunity. This landmark concert is also serving as an official release party for McCaa's “Grits and Graveyards” CD. At the age of nine, McCaa attended a performance by legendary Jazz painist/composer Dave Brubeck-and the rest is history. McCaa-now performing as Professor Porkchop-is an accomplished and acclaimed keyboardist/composer in his own right heavily influenced by the music of New Orleans and the blues scenes of Austin , Memphis and, of course, Shreveport , which itself has a rich heritage of blues masters streaming from Leadbelly to Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Over the years, McCaa has been an integral part of some of the region’s most popular bands such as the legendary A Train, The Red Hots and MTV award-winning group, The Insatiables. These days with his band, Professor Porkchop and The Dirty Dishes (Jason Coffield, guitar/sax; John Compton, bass; and Curt Watson, drums), McCaa is a popular fixture on the area club scene and continues to branch out to wider and larger markets following the release of the CD, “Grits and Graveyards”. This CD contains all original compositions and finds McCaa channeling his many influences and, at times, evoking a “Randy Newman meets Dr. John” vibe appropriate given his Louisiana roots. |
