BOSSIER CITY, LA (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town) BREAKING MILITARY NEWS: 10am 7-22-08  Bossier Mayor Lorenz "Lo" Walker has ordered flags at all Bossier City municipal buildings to be flown at half staff beginning today thru Friday, July 25th. in recognition of the Barksdale Air Force Base B-52 crewmembers who were lost in the recent crash off the coast of Guam.

"Our hearts are heavy from this tragic loss," said Mayor Walker. "Our prayers go out to the families of the lost crew members and to the Barksdale community."

Currently only two bodies of the crew of six from the Barksdale B-52H have been recovered.  According to an Air Force release early Tuesday morning, although there is still a massive search and rescue operation underway-- including Navy ships and helicopters, Coast Guard vessels as well as police and firefighters--it also hints that Air Force officials may be leaning toward making it a recovery mission. "We recognize however, that the longer this search continues the less likelihood there is that we'll find survivors.  Although we continue to hold out hope, we've had no encouraging indicators that our Airmen survived the crash," Brig. Gen. Douglas Owens is quoted as saying.
